    gelling, I don't get it

What so you mean by "water discount"? Can you explain it in water-to-lye ratio or % lye concentration please?

Another "How many of you ... ?" questions.

That's interesting! I don't have a beveller/planer but sometimes the edges need smoothing. I've used a knife so far and will try nylon stockings for finer smoothing.

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

All my tallow soap is made from my self-rendered tallow as we can't buy it anywhere (it's not on our market). Rendered lard yes, but no rendered tallow.

    Wick help, please!

This is so true! I've been struggling to find the right combination for tea candles (Ihaven't made them before) for someone who wants their candles to be "clean" - no soot, no paraffin, no wax odour, using their scents, ... I may decide to stop trying.

Soap and olive tree wood patterns

I donated a bar of soap to my friend and as we were chatting over the table where the bar way lying we noticed the stunning similarity between the soap bar and wood coasters made from olive tree wood.

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

I can't remember trying to make a soap cheesecake but I do remember my failure at lollipop swirl soap. I still have many "bars" of varying forms and colour patterns. My cake adaptation of lollipop swirl was eaten before I remembered to take any pictures :(

How much have you spent in a single order?

I spent 116 € in a hobby, art&craft company shop this morning - which is way too much. But it can't be undone, he-he!

    Thick too fast

May I ask what are your other oils/fats or any accelerating FO/EO? Cause my high lard batter is extremely slow and I'd love to shorten the process a bit.

    Lard percentage

funny, I have the same experience. My home rendered lard is odourless and one store bought lard smelled. It was traditional Slovenian lard for food where the odour is essential. The only additive was salt at 0.5 %. I promptly rendered it using water and salt to get impeccable lard for soaping.

What soapy thing have you done today?

This afternoon I grabbed severall pieces of thin remnants of soap bars to rebatch. As if I didn't have enough of mine + my soapmaking failures+ bevelling and shaving material - my second daughter also asks me to use her remnants. So I sorted the pieces by colour, shredded, added hot water to the...

    Business Planning 2022 Edition

What I wanted to ask Juggsy was in fact how she comes to say VINO for WINE in an English speaking area (wine is called vino in Slovenia, my home country in the middle of Europe).

    Soap in use

This is a very good idea, RO, and your used pieces look nice.

(Leuco-)Indigo and a puzzling Soap Chameleon

Peeping should be done a week or two earlier as it is stale urine that develops ammonia necessary for the dyeing process.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Completed rendering and final purification of raw beef suet. What I got was not only the fine fat from the kidney region but pieces of all sorts with blood, meat and liver bits. I selected the fine pieces and dumped the majority of "unclean" material in the bin. So that about six kilograms of...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Tara, I don't believe in cleaning all these bloody and/or meaty pieces successfully. One batch of tallow I'd rendered looked clean but when I poured lye solution into oils stringy bits formed that I had much difficulty to remove. And I have no chicks to feed these bits.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I got the promised beef tallow from a farmer in the market last Saturday. But - although we talked about the tallow from the kidney area he brought "a bit more" - about six kilograms :(. Much material with added bloody pieces, containing pieces of meat ... Argh, I had to dump three quarters or...

What soap has surprised you the most?

After trying some and reading of more special oils I found out how nice is soap made of beef/sheep tallow, lard, HO sunflower/olive oil and coconut oil - how nice it feels and looks. Finding out that less/simpler is more.
