    Excess Lye

Is it safe to assume that if you have a superfat level of 1% or more in liquid soap that is cooked fully that there will not be excess lye?

Have a hard time getting paste to break down

I've been wondering about over cooking the paste, and if you can do that and what the repercussions are. Maybe i am over cooking it, in fact i think i may be. Sometimes i get very dark spots in the paste, the little bits on the sides accumulate and look burned. But honestly that's how long it...

Have a hard time getting paste to break down

Hi all :) I've made liquid soap a handful of time with ok results. One recipe in particular i've had turn out quite well and its wonderful to use. The one constant with this particular recipe is that, after i've made the soap paste and add the water for dilution, let it sit over night, the paste...

    Sticky soap in silicone liner

Hello soapers :) I recently bought some 5lb silicone soap liners with mold from Nurture Soap Supply. I have a hard time getting my soap out of the liner even after its been sitting for 24-48 hours. It was never like this before with my wooden molds with same dimensions, and parchment paper. I...

    Soap design question

Hi people. Wondering if there is a formula to figure out how much soap is needed for certain designs. In particular, the design where you would tilt a rectangular loaf mold on its side to fill up the corner of the mold, for the diagonal corner? I know i could trial and error it but, wondering if...

    Over cooked liquid soap

Wow 10 hours?! That's so long. I think maybe it was stuff that had dried on the sides and bottom. It's hard to get every last piece, especially if you use the same spatula throughout the whole process, and it builds up on the spatula maybe? I probably won't try the alcohol, I like to do things...

    Over cooked liquid soap

My recipe was 9oz olive oil, 2.5oz castor, 1.5 coconut oil. The lye to water ratio was 1 : 2.4. I used the soap calc.net lye calculator. I cooked this for almost 6 hours which seems excessive to me for such a small batch. It appeared to be translucent but still had some whiteish chunks in it so...

    First time

Hello knowledgeable soap makers! Last night i attempted making liquid soap. I think it went well, except for this morning when i went to look in my slow cooker expecting to find a runny diluted soap mixture, it was still very thick. My recipe was 75% Olive oil, 12.5% castor oil, and 12.5%...
