    Which extras. Sodiums, sugars, acids

Hey all. I've been doing some research on additives for lather, hardness and longevity. I have to say I'm a bit confused. Most things I've found, only talk about 1 particular additive and what they do, rather than the combo of items to use. So my question is, what do people use and any...

    Fragrance oil

Oh well, let's just say the British media (I'm from the UK originally) are reporting it spectacularly badly. There is a lot of fake news and bias. If you're interested in the politics, I have no problem with you DMing me if you want to know anything. Happy to chat about it. But I appreciate the...

    Fragrance oil

Haha. No judgement from me.... just curious. 🤔 Thanks @LilyJo I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. If you're sick of the regs you can always move to Hong Kong..... no regulations here..... It's also why I make my own cosmetics and toiletries, otherwise my skin would look like this 🤡

    Fragrance oil

Ah interesting. Thanks for that. I work in garment manufacturing and we have a similar thing for fabric, so it makes sense. The cost of each test is astronomical. Sorry to get a bit technical, especially since I just make for fun, but I find this stuff interesting. So do the regulations only...

    Fragrance oil

Hey @LilyJo I don't sell, but interested in your comment just for learning. So if I understand you correctly, FOs that recommend a 6% usage at purchase, should be used at 2% max if selling them for safety reasons in Europe. It's that correct? Where are the recommendations for this? EU sales...

    Fragrance oil

Does anyone have any tips for FO or EO that don't hold their scent? I've only had problems with vanilla and orange scents fading quickly. I've tried the kaolin clay trick, which has improved the scent longevity, but not enough. Are there any other scents I need to watch out for or tips on...

    Dandelion soap

You can use them to infuse oil. There are quite a few recipes for lotion bars using dandelion, online. Maybe start there and adapt as you want to. I haven't tried dandelion yet, but I would assume it would work similar to calendula or marigold.

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

Hi all. Just want to say thank you for all your replies and help. My mica/ash problem, (I think) has been solved. Just unmolded my 3 little experiment batches and all have minimum or barely any ash now. I'm very happy with the results.

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

I have the summer crush mica also. It works beautifully in M&P but I haven't tried it in CP yet. I think this one is being discontinued, but from my research, the corals and oranges need to be used at a higher rate per pound. 1.5 - 2 tsp and Natures Soap have updated their advice to soap at...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

I'm finding the same thing with oranges at the moment. The colours change completely, depending on the heat. I mainly found out by mistake, but the link seemed to make sense to me, at least with my limited experience so far. I'm getting far less ash and bolder colours with less heat, but I am...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

@TheGecko Oh indeed. Couldn't agree more. I did the same as you with the research and on my 10th batch of actual making now. Definitely a learning curve but I cant thank the members enough for all the help and tips. Even the mistakes are teaching me something and making me eager to learn...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

Thanks @penelopejane for your advice. I'm just making for myself so I can definitely leave them for for a week and something I haven't tried yet so that's fab. Thanks. I think everyone here has mentioned the plastic wrap so I'll definitely add that in. It's not something I found in my general...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

Thanks for the detailed steps. I'm already doing the alcohol, so I think I need more insulation. I'm definitely not covering them when I remove the soap from their molds, so that's a great tip. Thank you. I'll try that on the next batch. Thanks for the details on this. I think it definitely...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

Oh ok, so should I go higher with less water do you think? I'm not using loaf molds. Silicone 75g square molds for colour testing. I have tried de molding at 1 day, 2 days and 3, but it's not making a lot of difference to the ash. I'll try at room temp and see if that makes a difference. Thanks...

Confused about temperatures, mica and ash

Hi all. I'm new to CP and posted previously about a lot of ash. From my research I'm finding the average lye oil mixing temperature to be 110F. However when I've looked into adding mica, I'm getting a range of information from 80F to 120F and advice to heat the molds in ovens, heat pads or...

    MP from scratch

Ah ok thanks for the advice. No, you're right the store bought doesn't last long. About 4-6 weeks if you keep it covered, but I'll look into HP first.

    MP from scratch

Thanks for sharing. It's been really helpful. How long does the homemade M&P soap last (after it's been made, cured, reheated, scents added, colours added etc...) compared to store bought M&P and CP? I'm new to CP and having loads of problems, eventhough I'm following recipes and...

Buying Melt and pour base uk

Have you tried Stephensons? They have lots of options. They manufacture but don't sell directly. You have to find someone that sells them in the UK, but you can find all the details you need on their website.

Small sized Molds. Newbie needs some help

I did the calculations manually and then ran it through soap calc to double check. I had the same thought as you, so I checked it again yesterday after I took it out of the mold and saw the results. All correct. I figured I must have made a weighing mistake somewhere, but my second batch had the...
