    3 price comparisons

Lotion crafter overestimated shipping it seems as every time I've ordered I've gotten a refund for shipping overages

    Shaving soap FAIL

Forewarning, I know absolutely nothing about shave soaps as I haven't ventured there yet, but could you maybe be cooking it at too high of a temp if it's getting all crumbly? Maybe your crock pot runs hotter than others. Perhaps try cutting it on and off every 15-20 minutes to try and keep the...

Recipe for a soap that can negate a water softener?

^^ I was kind of wondering the same thing. Maybe a more cleansing soap with a lower SF to achieve a typical "clean" feeling.. but I really don't know if that would help or not.

Soap related humor & MEMES with soap on their mind

    EOS lip balm dupe

Ok, hopefully 3rd try is the charm.. my post keeps disappearing.. I tried the recipe that IL suggested and so far so good. I had to sub in some of my candelilla wax for beeswax as I ran out, so thank you for the amount recommendation! I used 1.5× the amount of my remains beeswax amount.

    EOS lip balm dupe

Ah ha! That's the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks guys! Off to make some lip balm lol. IL, I also agree that 1% Shea probably wouldn't have been noticed. I was actually planning to bump it up to 5% or 10%

    EOS lip balm dupe

Good point Dixie. What about something like 55% olive, 20% beeswax, 20% coconut..... I also have candillila (sp?) wax. That's usually used at half the amount of beeswax correct?

    EOS lip balm dupe

Ok, I actually really love Eos lip balms and I would love to recreate them as closely as possible. Ingredient list pulled straight from their website: I have very limited experience with lip balms, so I'm not really sure where to start. I'm figuring that the olive, beeswax, and coconut oils...

    Freaking out re. Batter ingestion.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the reassurance. It it was me, I wouldn't have been worried, but it was my kid. I usually have all the dishes put up as well, just had a lazy moment today and didn't want to before soaping. Nice reality check I reckon. She seems to have made a full recovery...

    Freaking out re. Batter ingestion.

At lunch, I gave my daughter a glass of tea and she took a swallow and immediately brought it to me saying it's bad. I was puzzled and told her it was tea it shouldn't be bad. She took another swallow and insisted it was bad. So I took her cup to taste it and as I was about to pull the top off...

How Do You Recycle/Upcycle Rice Packing Peanuts?

I'm not gonna lie.. My cousin thought they were chips one day and fed a couple of them to my children.. I died laughing when I found out lol.

Big Batching: Pre-making lotion bars without scent

I don't see why it wouldn't work. There are people who master batch lip balls and then melt them down to add different flavor/essential oils before packaging. Its essentially the same thing in my mind

Sodium citrate from baking soda and citric acid

Thanks! Don't have any pH strips, so I'll just go with the fizzy test lol

Sodium citrate from baking soda and citric acid

Question. I mixed it up following the original recipe and something has settled out to the bottom but the rest is clear. If I shake it, it starts reacting again. Should I keep shaking it until all is dissolved?

Didn't even think of that. You are a genius lol

Aluminum molds - ok for M&P?

Aluminum is fine for MP as there's no lye for it to react with. CP and HP are another story. I've never used those for molds, but I think you may be right about it being a neat mold. My only concern is how easily will the soap pop out, but with as cheap as those are, I say go for it! If the...

What type of soybean oil to use?

I would like to add that each person is dofferent, though, so if you want to try a shampoo bar, go for it. I honestly feel like my hair has never been healthier since I started using a shampoo bar. That may change one day, but it's been almost 2 years now I believe. And my hair absolutely abhors...

How much to add for an effect?

Typically, the minimum most people will use of any oil is 5%. Most of the experienced soap makers here say anything under that is pretty much wasted because there's not enough to effect the final soap. I agree with everyone else, though, that it requires a bit of experimentation to find out the...

    Making Aloe Vera Oil?

Yes, I love aloe in soap! Lovely bubbes. However, I'm actually asking about this for a scrub. I'm afraid to add the gel to it for of upping the chances of nasties.
