    Lye by Essential Depot

Ah - ok - I don long sleeved nitrile gloves like these And a face mask and fitted goggles. The goggles have farsighted correction because I need readers but they are annoying because the correction is in the corners so I feel slightly cross eyed. In the summer the goggles fog up because of the...

    Lye by Essential Depot

That is a good price - makeyourown.buzz has smaller quantities of sodium gluconate that are more per pound but much cheaper than amazon. I bought 20 lbs last summer that should last me a while. https://www.makeyourown.buzz/sodium-gluconate/

    essential oil blend

You’ll likely get other advice but I don’t think it makes any difference. Some people like to mix their EOs with castor oil or kaolin clay. Haven’t tried this so I can’t advise.

    Lye by Essential Depot

That is a good price - I have been buying mine from Duda diesel in 50 lb buckets. The buckets are a chore to deal with but I have a process for dispensing it into smaller containers. It works out (now, their prices have increased) to $.19/ ounce with shipping. But the 2lb bottles are handy.

    Easter soaps - colors

I second @dibbles advice about @curlycoat2 being the resident expert on natural colorants - thanks so much for joining the discussion! Look at your market photo, just beautiful. Chas from Wild Plantanica has a video on making carrot cake soap (with plant colorants) that looks so fun - I want to...

    My heart is full

Thank you all… DIL will be sent home today, I think. Her big sister (almost three yo) is a little unsure about everything but I know they will be pals. 👧👶

Purple clay acting weird in soap

I have looked at manganese violet before - TKB trading notes that it is “not stable in cold process soap” Manganese Violet The part on the outside might not have reacted as much with the lye.

    My heart is full

My daughter in law gave birth to a beautiful baby girl yesterday after a long and difficult labor. When we finally got the good news I wept with relief. I’m so grateful. ❤️

DIY Mini Immersion Blender using Acrylic Resin or Epoxy?

Thanks - I did try superglue, it just kept coming off, I was so irritated at the design of it that I couldn’t keep looking at it. Sort of a stupid decision to toss it but I thought I could get a better one. Now I know!

DIY Mini Immersion Blender using Acrylic Resin or Epoxy?

I used to have the plug in mini immersion blender. The design was such that the mixing part (the rod and end part) was just friction fit into the handle. Eventually it stopped holding the business end and after a lot of attempts to make it stay in I tossed it out of frustration. I have been...

SMF JANUARY 2024 CHALLENGE – Mini Drop [Mini Drip] Swirl

Ok, as promised, here is my disastrous first attempt. As background, I was using up some infused oils; olive oil infused with paprika, turmeric, annatto, turkey rhubarb, vetch, sweetgrass, hemlock, and borage. I also had some older lard, a tiny bit of tallow, and some soy wax (probably didn’t...

ENTRY THREAD for the January 2024 SMF Challenge – Mini Drop[Mini Drip] Swirl Technique

Hi all! I’m so glad I actually got my challenge soap done this month. (Made it yesterday - it is still quite soft!) What a fun, cool technique, I had never tried it before. Thank you @Mobjack Bay for all your instructions and careful observations, they were very helpful. And thanks to all those...

    Anchor or Pyrex?

re Anchor vs. Pyrex (not PYREX) I find the Anchor works much better for pourable shampoo. The spout is better. I can’t even say why, but it is.

What soapy thing have you done today?

That’s funny, for me Trial by Fire always has specks of what I assume is iron oxide even if I smush it to death in oil with a palette knife. I wonder if it was the batch I got? What do you do to mix it? thank you that’s a good tip!

    Nailed it!

Love this, it’s gorgeous Zing. And I love that we have adopted the word “chuffed” (I never heard it before @KiwiMoose said it). In New England one might say “pretty psyched” 😄

What soapy thing have you done today?

Just curious (if it’s not a trade secret) what proportions of rosemary and lemongrass do you use? Sounds nice. My soapy thing today was mica color testing - 25 micas, four 50 g samples at different concentrations of each color. I measured using % by weight of oils rather than by volume...
