How much ice to use while keeping the soap hot?

I use the heat transfer method 90% of the time. I measure out my oils and place them in my bowl. I mix my lye water and stir until clear. I pour my lye water into my oils and mix to melt the oils and then mix to emulsion (or whatever level I trace I am working toward). Then I proceed with...

    Long spout pitchers

Slightly off topic but does anyone know where one can buy larger “long-spout” pitchers for pouring soap batter? I have the standard size and love them but could use a larger size for my larger batches and can’t seem to find any anywhere.

Business launch planning: specifically, how long can I take a loss on taxes?

What, exactly, is “exceptional” insurance? We purchased our policy through a company that insures soapmaking. Not sure if it is “exceptional” or not but we have a millions dollars of coverage. Of course, proper labeling is important (base your label on the requirement for the country in which...

Business launch planning: specifically, how long can I take a loss on taxes?

We secured our LLC almost immediately upon choosing our company name. I think we paid in the region of $50-100. This is not something you need need an attorney for (save the money). We filled out the paperwork, submitted it along with payment and we were done. That was simply one thing out of...

    My First Attempt

Good advice when using a stick blender - pulse and stir (with a spoon); repeat. I was taught to never use the stick blender to mix the soap - always pulse and stir. You can just stir but it takes longer (a lot longer) but if you just pulse, it may set up quicker than you want.

Well This Hasn't Gone To Plan

I would recommend not using more fragrance than recommended by the vendor. These numbers are there for a reason. If it says use a fragrance at 1%, use 1%.

    Banks?

I have both my personal and business accounts at our local bank. I am not charged for either account. I am required to keep at least $100 in each to insure I do not incur any service charges. I love our banker and the clerks who work in the bank are just terrific. I have had zero problems with...

    Shave Soap: Stearic vs. Palmitic

I buy the least expensive one I can find because I was taught to simply pulse and stir - I do not use my immersion blender to bring my batches to trace.
