    Wrapping for Christmas Presents

I've made individual batches of soap for each member of my family to give as gifts this year. Any suggestions on how / what to wrap them in? Thanks!

    Using beer in soap

This tread inspired me to try a batch of beer soap yesterday. I substituted all the water for plain beer, which I added a tsp of kosher salt to to drive out the CO2 and stirred until it stopped foaming. Stuck this in the freezer while I weighed out the rest of my ingredients, then mixed the...

My first shaving soap is a success!

Seized! I made two batches of shaving soap this week. First batch I made using 45% Stearic Acid, 25% Coconut Oil, 20% Tallow, 5% Cocoa Butter, 5% Shea Butter, 5% super-fatted, 11% Glycerin, 80/20 KOH/NAOH. Melted the Stearic separately and added it after the rest of the oils traced...

    I broke my soap!

Spritz the pieces with water, put back together in the mold, and put in a 160F oven for a few hours?

    Tallow-tastic Weekend!

I think my next batch I'm going to do in the oven like I make stock. We save all meat bones and keep them in the freezer until we have enough to make stock, then we put all the bones and veg in a large stock pot filled with water and put in the oven at 250F overnight. Makes awesome stock and...

    Tallow-tastic Weekend!

Howdy Ya'll! So, I've been working my way patiently through the 100+ pages of the shaving soap thread. Gotten up to page 49 so far, and have already decided I want to try a batch or two using beef tallow. So I bought 5 lbs from the HEB butcher counter this Saturday to render down. (Got it...

    safety gear issue

You can get an anti-fog spray to use on your safety glasses in any auto-parts store. Usually right next to the rain-x. Just spray inside your glasses / goggles and polish with a soft cloth. As for fumes, if your stove hood vents outside, mix your lye under the vent. That's what I do. As...

    One tiny change... Disaster!

Yep, batch is tossed. Thanks everyone :) Cmzaha - never got to add the FO. Susie - I weigh everything. The original recipe I found was in OZ, but I converted everything to grams and ran it through soapcalc to get my lye & water, but didn't have my conversion handy when I was writing my...

    One tiny change... Disaster!

It's passed the zap test. I let it sit off and on for 10 minutes, and I still couldn't get it to come together - that's when I figured it must be an imbalance. I had originally calculated a SF of 7%. With the added lye I'm still at 3% super-fat, so I wasn't worried about adding too much lye...

    One tiny change... Disaster!

So last month I made a batch of bar soap specifically for shaving, and using Tamanu Oil as the super-fat in the recipe: 4 Oz CO, 4 Oz Olive, 5 Oz Palm, 1 Oz Avocado, 1 Tbs Bentonite, 2.2 Oz Lye, 1 Cup Water. I blended to light trace, then added the Tamanu Oil and Shave & a Haircut fragrance...

    8 batches this weekend! Questions!

Thanks Lenarenee. I was really impressed how well it came out myself! The white side is natural - no pigments added and is actually slightly tan. All I did was divide the batter, add charcoal to 1/2, and poured them in at the same time, then took a thick wooden chop stick to make the swirls...

    8 batches this weekend! Questions!

Thanks cmzaha, I'll pass that along to the wife. Although, I have no qualms using my brother as a beta tester  As for using plastic wrap, as several have posted above, I was covering in an attempt to prevent ash after spraying the tops with alcohol. Moving forward as others have...

    8 batches this weekend! Questions!

Thanks everyone. For the rose soaps I waited 24 hours for them to firm up but were still slightly soft, then pushed a rose leaf into the tops. I will probably take them off after a few more days of drying as I'm sure they will turn brown, but I was really after the impression they will make on...

    8 batches this weekend! Questions!

Hi All! As I mentioned in a previous post (Mom Soap) I am making soap for Christmas presents this year. I received my order from BB and has a soaping extravaganza this past weekend. Oh, and thank you again for everyone who sent me recipies to try out! The wife and I had a ball trying them...

    Mom Soap

LOL - NO! :lolno: She is Daddy's girl and would pine forever without me :) Got her as a rescue dog and she's been the best dog I ever had. Her name is Natasha and is a Border Collie / Great Pyrenees mix. She thinks she's a 45 lb lap dog.

    Mom Soap

I've got an order from BrambleBerry coming in this week and I'm gearing up to make soap as Christmas Presents this year. Regular Bars for the ladies, and Shaving Bars for the guys. If I make them this weekend they should have a good 3 months to cure before they get them. (Repeat: "I will...
