    5 Most Popular Scents?

I did a little research to find best selling scents. I don't want to purchase a lot of EO's or have a lot of scents competing against one another. I know every study can be twisted to some advantage so I'm wondering what you think. I like the lavender, which is the first place winner. I'm...

A Good Loaf Decoration Soap Recipe

I'm not sure what you mean by "well layered"? Mine is heavier on the OO because of my skin type.

A little peeved with the booth I saw today

I hadn't thought about it but I like the idea of selling in bulk; by weight. It makes a lot of sense strictly from a cost vs profit point of view. A lot of people are becoming accustomed to purchasing a wide variety of food items in bulk. Items that are mostly sold at organic or health food...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

Maybe a plastic cottage cheese/butter/sour cream container?

A Good Loaf Decoration Soap Recipe

Thanks for sharing this. I was looking through the recipes trying to find a reliable, stable, but economical recipe to produce. I like my recipe which is similar to yours but it isn't economical -- not terribly expensive but not cheap either.

    Logo on bar?

I like the solid and the soft for different applications. The soft mold can be used as a flexible soap mold. The various videos show several different ways. One way was to use a bucket of water and squirt the silicone caulk in it. The other way was to mix with vegetable oil and corn starch...

Tell me about Salt bars...why great?

My salt soap traced very fast and took the usual time to set in the mold. I cut it this morning and the soap looks great. The soap is a combination of salt and regular soap. I'm glad I did that because when I washed with the salt soap it was very drying -- which is what I was expecting. The...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

That is a good question. I wonder how long you can store lye water at room temp before it goes bad; loses the properties of lye? If it is indefinite, doesn't lose the ability to make soap, I would put it in a mason jar.

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

You were right! I cut it this morning and it was fine. It took the usual amount of time. I was worried because many people said salt soap gets hard fast, and mine didn't get hard fast. It sure traced VERY fast though. I kept sticking my fingers in the test bars that had the inverted design...

Your First Thought on My Logo

"Another issue is the name - if you google Lamb Soap, you get tons of hits." I consider this to be a positive -- my selling schema has been bought and paid for by Corporate America. IMO, there is nothing new or imaginary about soap. There is something new and imaginary about using a...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

I like using things that grow on my farm and I just finished using some mulberries for colorant. Mulberries look like black berries. I kind of knew before I used it the color was not going to be what I expected. It turned the soap a dark sienna. Typically sienna comes from a clay with iron...

    snowflake mold question....

I was looking for something else and when I came across this pic I thought of your snowflake. Here is the web page.

Tell me about Salt bars...why great?

I went ahead and made some and it seems to be fine. I just finished so I don't know yet. I did a few individual bars and some with embedded soap leftovers so I would know if any problems resulted from the salt soap or the embedded soap.

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

I just finished making my first salt soap and on one of the individual soaps I used a wire to see if I liked the design, just a test. I like that the salt soap makes the design stand up a little more, making it more noticeable. That's the good news. The bad news is, I'm not sure if the soap...

Your First Thought on My Logo

I'm giggling. There is a message that people don't want -- spending money -- too funny. I appreciate your input, it is very helpful and I'm still considering the Lamb. It won't help if people don't come back for more, and they won't if they can't remember the name. Most of our church folks...

Tell me about Salt bars...why great?

I've been following this thread and wanting to post a question about using some of the soap I have already made in the design, so it would look something like the pic below. The circles would be a somewhat standard OO soap. Do you think the regular soap and salt soap would argue with one...

    snowflake mold question....

You are probably looking for a prettier color, and not the plain Jane natural stuff I'm attracted to but... I don't know how this would turn out (my disclaimer, hehehe). I was thinking about doing this with one of my molds -- put my seeds in first with a little beeswax over them, inside the...

    Logo on bar?

Obsidian, what kind of stamp did you make? The videos I watched showed a few different ways and materials. Some used a 2 part epoxy, but this one kid used plain old silicone caulk -- the kind you use to caulk doors and windows. It turned out really good but I wondered how long it took to dry...

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Question: In the rules it states you can use a loaf or a slab, and I'm wondering if the silicone "slabs" for individual hand soaps, or my combination slab/loaf can be used? I have a traditional home-made wood loaf mold and I can remove the divider in the slab mold pictered below, but I like...
