SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Here is a blog I stumbled across while looking for various plants to use in soaps -- Rhubarb Soap, complete from digging up, to infusing, and her soap recipe. Such a pretty soap color.

New Soap Lye Calculator, Oil and Soap Recipe Database

I really liked it! A great resource. Thanks for making it available. I downloaded your oils; it is one of the most comprehensive lists I've seen and it is very easy to find what I'm looking for. Thanks again for sharing it. Awesome.

    All your fault!!

Your subject "all your fault" got my attention. I was expecting something like "I'm addicted to soap making". Once I started reading I was laughing so hard I couldn't quit. I quit FB long ago and for the same reason. I didn't even leave my page up. Drama doesn't even begin to explain my...

    Rabbit fat?

We also have hives. With a name like "BeeButter" I thought you may have bees. I lost a hive a few years ago and was worried we would lose them all. Colony Collapse is such a problem -- they really should rename it to "GMO Annihilation". I get a little frustrated with my neighbor. I've asked...

    Eczema Soap Ingredients/Recipe

Babassu oil is non-drying and has similar properties to coconut oil. It helps with itching. I have dry skin and winter would bring on unbearable itching. I began making my own soap and decided to use it. I don't know if it's because I make my own soap or the Babassu, but I don't have any more...

    Rebatch photos

Thanks for sharing this. I know I will need to know how to correct a mistake. Stuff happens... This is great info Teresa!

    First Show

That's what I've been reading. I didn't decide to sell soap at the fall Church craft fair until a week or so ago so the salt soap won't be ready :( Thanks for telling me though. I need all the help I can get. Maybe I'll like it so much I'll make tons of it.

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

First, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to patiently teach me how to do this. Wonderful people! When I forget there are still kind people in the world I need to come to SMF  If you aren't too bored with this thread  (I know you folks do this all the time so I hate to...

    Rabbit fat?

Do you raise them for your meat only or do you sell them? I was at the processing plant in Aurthur IL (Amish) getting my chickens processed. I thought it was for poultry only (FDA processing plant) but there was a man unloading at least 100 rabbits to be processed. I was surprised there was...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

No it didn't at all! I am sincere and grateful. I have a very bad habit of saying it straight-up if I'm offended. I don't often do the "sarcastic" without a very blunt explanation. I am misinterpreted often so I try very hard never to make the back-handed remarks (unless you are family, then...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

Thank you so much! It makes so much sense and does make life easier. I know what you mean about clearing the area of living things. I'll close the door to keep the dogs and DH out, but it never fails; if I'm in the kitchen he wants to know what's cookin'. In come the dogs and the DH, and it...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

Oh, I see -- my brain went to 1/2 the strength a recipe requires. I'm glad I asked and thanks so much for explaining it to me. My brain doesn't quickly embrace "soap talk" yet. I just got used to everyone talking about the percentage of oils  I'd rather look stupid for a moment by...

    Natural Colorants vs Micas/Oxides

Why at a 50%? I was thinking it would be easier/faster, but if I still need to mix the other half it doesn't seem like a big time saver. I know I'm probably missing the obvious, but I would rather ask then remain ignorant :-? The only thing that popped into my head was to save time on the...

    Using Maple Syrup

Thank you for the information! I assumed it wasn't a wonderful additive but I thought I would ask.

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

I've been experimenting with all the kitchen tools. I like the whip, pastry cutter and apple cutter, but not the egg cutter. Maybe the pic will give someone creative ideas. I usually like doing something I've seen because that creative part me isn't well developed. This is pushing me outside...

    Using Maple Syrup

Has anyone tried using maple syrup at trace -- like using honey at trace. I'm wondering if the soap would smell a lot like maple.

    5 Most Popular Scents?

This is from the study/research so I don't know what it is other than the fragrance.

    Honey Dots?

I put honey in most of my soaps at trace and I haven't had that problem. I'm not all that picky about measuring it either. It's "yep, looks like a tablespoon" as I tip the bottle, but may be more like 2 tablespoons. A bad habit cooks get into... An afterthought == at the beekeepers meetings...

    Making your own recipes?

BTW, many people ignore the can of Crisco in the cupboard. I did when I first started. I came across a few people that swore by it so I tried it. I honestly like it. It makes a creamy, white soap. Obsidian is right about the fancy oils. Save them and use sparingly. Unless you have a ton...

    Making your own recipes?

Here is another chart that I like and it's downloadable in a .pdf for easier reference/printing. http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/mas_assets/theme/ngc/pdf/soapoils.pdf The charts listed above are all good too -- all have a different format but they pretty much say the same things. I have...
