Question for those of you who do outdoor shows

When I was in CT, the majority of the time you could pull right up to your space, unload, set up and if there wasn't room you would then go park. This was in the country and the vendors got to know one another so we didn't worry about anyone swiping stuff in the five minutes it took to get back...

Very young castile, no snot yet

I think some people mistake the snot for softness, or in some other way actually like it. I have some castille I made last year. Dean likes it - it is definitely snot city. So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say some people just do not detect the snotty-ness and to others it's obvious...

    Question?

Thank you for apologizing, we can all get cranky and short when we are tired. Most of us here have thick skin or have grown it. I don't know of one person here that would try to belittle someone on purpose, BUT not one of us will sugar coat anything either. Many of us are blunt and to the point...

    Soaps so far...

This is great! If I were you I would print out the pictures and put them with the recipes. You can clearly see your learning and skill as a soaper improving. With each batch you learn something. Remember you never fail, you just find new things that don't work. I think you are doing great...

    Hubby Wants Menthol Soap

I used menthol in shave soap. I dissolve the crystals in warm oil, but separate from the whole pot so I can be sure it all dissolved. It is hard to say how much but I used about a tsp PPO of the crystals. The reason it is difficult is the crystals are not a powder and therefore they are hard to...

Cranky about people asking for legal advice

I think it happens to everyone. I am not an accountant, I've just been a bookkeeper forever, but people know I do my own business taxes - so what do you think people ask me about.

    Soap breaking and crumbling,please help!

I'm not sure why your soap is crumbling. Heat works and it is a quick fix, but you should try to find the culprit. Have you zap tested your soap? Not immediately but after 2-3 days? Lye heavy soap will also cause crumbling, just one extra thing to double check.

    Soap breaking and crumbling,please help!

Try cutting earlier. I have recipes that I cut within 12 hours and they are not salt bars or high in coconut oil, they just firm up quickly. When you get crumbling stop cutting. Turn on the oven at 200 degrees and put your soap on a non reactive pan ( not aluminum or iron) or even a silicone...

    Soap breaking and crumbling,please help!

How soon are you trying to cut? Crumbling is usually a sign of waiting too long. A trick that can sometimes save a loaf is to stick it in the oven to heat it up, then cut immediately. Only try this if your first slice is crumbling.

    Freezer help please!

Hmm, that crack in the middle looks like zombie teeth, that usually happens with overheating! This was in the freezer? Was the middle still warm? Very strange.

Is non-fat powdered milk good enough?

You can get whole milk powder at Walmart - it is in the Spanish foods section and comes in a bright yellow canister. I think it is called Nico or something like that. Definitely use whole milk powder.

    Castile Bars & curing

How about, make some Castile then make something to use in the interim. The Castile will cure over time, you can set it in the linen closet and forget about it while you use another soap. Then around Xmas you can try out your Castile. You could even make some liquid Castile to have as well.

    35 Years Ago Today....

After so many years those flowers say he's a keeper! What a sweet gesture, and you know the "vase" and flowers don't matter, but the thought that he went out and got them himself - priceless. I hope you have a wonderful day, and many more happy anniversaries!

SOAPCALC - What doe these numbers tell you about your soap?

Looking at the numbers I would guess your recipe is a type of Bastille. High in olive oil with a bit of coconut oil and probably a bit of another oil as well. I think you are using a vegan recipe. Of course this is only a guess going off the numbers.
