You know your house is hot...

My Shea butter is semi liquid, like very warm butter, same with the lard, coconut is totally liquid, even my cocoa butter is easy to cut.

    A couple display items.

Yesterday I went to jo annes fabric store and found these bead holders and the glass tea candle holder was from goodwill (originally walmart). Lip balm tubes fit perfectly into the bead organizer. Also lotion tubes fit in the glass tea candle holder. Nice way to keep your displays neat.

    First attempt at CP cupcakes

Ah I see. When I make soap cupcakes I make the base then wait until the next day to pipe. No I don't have any problem with the tops separating, you should be fine as long as you pipe within 2-3 days.

Do swirled soaps really sell better?

From my experience, solid colors or lightly swirled soaps sell well. Highly decorated and swirled soaps do sell, but many times they are looked at more as "art" and are given as gifts or used as decoration. More people buy my more plain soaps to use than highly intricate swirls.

What's this cream-like goo through the middle of the loaf?

The only time I've seen something like that was when I cut pure coconut oil soap when it was still warm inside. It was soap and it did harden up. If that soap goo isn't warm, it couldn't have been the same.

    infusing botanicals help!!

I infuse dry herbs by heating oil, taking off the heat and pouring it over dry herbs in a canning jar. Place the jar in a cool dry place and shake it every few days. I don't rush this, in a month I have a very well infused oil.

Why do you prefer HP or CP?

I like CP because i cant make a good looking HP to save my life. I almost always overcook and then get little hard bits of soap in my soap. I have to glop it into the mold because i can never keep it smooth enough (again overcooking). Same with rebatch soap, never comes out looking like...

    First attempt at CP cupcakes

Oh my, what a shame, they were beautiful! Was your batter still cold when you piped it or had it warmed up? I had that happen once when i didnt soap cold enough, now i know to keep the ingrdients cold cold, like 60 degrees or less. Back then though i thought you just got a heavy trace and then...

What do we think about this?

If this were a big company, I might (probably not but might) be with you. As it is they have 2 stores and frankly we do not know the finances of the stores. Did she take out a big loan and open the stores together? Is she independently wealthy? In which case the stores could be failing and...

    Is Lye Tested on Animals?

I do not believe anyone would test lye on an animal. But first let me address the statement that lye is almost always used. Lye is Always, not almost always, Always used to make soap. Soap can not be soap without using lye, it can be detergent, but not soap. Now for lye, lye would always harm...

A question about lye & vegan soap

Actually you are not suppose to use the INCI, unless the common name is not available. The difference is whether you are labeling what is IN the soap or what went into the making of the soap. If you use sodium olivate you must be labeling what is in the soap, if you are, you must also list the...

    Safe Essential Oils

Some have in fact caused miscarriages. EO's can be very strong and because they are natural it is very hard to regulate the amount of active substance in them. In one plant it may be weak but another plant may be 5x as strong. Most people forget that most of the drugs we use today are just...

    Safe Essential Oils

Some EO's are not recommended during pregnancy because they can cause uterine contractions and could cause a miscarriage. This does not mean they are not safe for everyone else. Here is a list to be avoided during pregnancy. • Arnica (homeopathic is fine) • Basil • Birch (sweet) •...

    Homemade vs. Commercial Lye

Ah, thank you DeeAnna! I always learn so much from you! So that is how the old time soap makers could make bar soap from KOH! Yes they wasted a lot of soap, but for storage it was probably easier to store the bars than a paste. Now that I'm thinking about it, back then I believe they only...

    Scott's Marketplace?

I'll be honest, I never heard of Scott's so I would think Etsy gets a ton more traffic. Most people have at least heard of etsy even if they haven't gone there.

    Cp soap cupcakes

Possible? Yes, but you will have a long wait before you could get it thick enough. Also you would have a very long wait before it would be sale-able. Pure olive oil soaps need a long cure time. (6 months is minimum 8 months is better. ) this is in addition to many people not liking the slimely...

    Homemade vs. Commercial Lye

If you do try it you will want to use the boiling, salting out method. This will insure you don't have too much lye in your soap, which will be a soft soap. The down side to this is you will also be removing the glycerin from your soap (no way around it) but you could add some back in afterwards.
