What soapy thing have you done today?

I had my first craft sale where I was really happy and excited with how well I did. There was a steady flow of customers throughout the day so the time went by quickly. I learned I really need to make an unscented/uncoloured soap, lotions don't sell well here, and that my efforts to switch to...

    Too ugly?

I've taken in some of my soaps that I personally considered 'too ugly' to sell to my office to give away to my coworkers and they still absolutely loved them. They appreciated the time and effort that went into making it and how much nicer it is to use than commercial soap. I don't consider...

SMF November 2019 Challenge - Spin Swirl

I've finally stopped lurking and posted enough I can participate this month! 1. AMD - Yet another challenge for my fast moving recipe 2. dibbles - Hoping I can do this without slopping batter everywhere! 3. Misschief - This is a technique I want to try again and I MIGHT have time this...

Very cute! What did you scent it with?

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made some fizzing bath salts, and got those and the shower steamers labelled for the craft sale this weekend. I just have some lotion bars and lip balms to label and will be all set. Usually i'm scrambling at the last minute so this is kind of nice!

Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

This is so good to know! One less ingredient to worry about and it may bring the cost down if ever deciding to sell. Hopefully I have a chance this weekend to give the shampoo bars another shot, you guys have me excited to get formulating!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I ordered a smaller (50g) mooncake press and thanks to the magic of Amazon Prime it came today. The smaller press works much better. Made 66 shower steamers. Menthol-Spearmint-Eucalyptus; Menthol-Yuzu; Menthol-Pink Grapefruit; and Menthol-Cucumber. I just used FOs since I have the menthol for...

What soapy thing have you done today?

May I ask if you just use menthol crystals, or do you add any EOs to them as well?

What soapy thing have you done today?

My sister has a cold so I tried to make some shower steamers in a mooncake press. I thought if they were easy enough I could make them for the craft sale I have this weekend. I think I had it too wet because it kept sticking to the press. They're now in a somewhat mooncake shape with an ugly top...

Is there something wrong with my soap?

I had that happen to me once, the inside never did turn the same colour as the outer edge, though it did darken and wasn't so noticeable. It kind of looked like the soap had a rind. It just gives it character!

Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

You're very welcome! So easy to miss when working with so many ingredients and small numbers. Your post reminded me that I have some Kokum butter to use and I've been wanting to try a syndet bar again so this was good timing. I based my first one off of swift craft monkey's recipe with some...

    Wrestlers' soap?

This is really interesting! From everything I've read it seemed there was nothing conclusive that any properties of oils/additives would survive the lye. I have some Neem but haven't got around to trying it yet. I'd be interested in hearing what you come up with :)

    Wrestlers' soap?

Along the line of "sloughing off dead skin cells" maybe some activated charcoal? I found my bar exfoliating. Have you considered a lotion? Since its a leave on product you are likely to get more of the antifungal properties of your oils that will likely just get eaten up by the lye in a soap.

Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

Hi @Gaisy59, I would suggest double checking the usage rate for this, because I think it is supposed to be 0.5% not 0.05%.

    Attention Canadians!

The lime FO really faded for me too. It's there, but really faint. Margarita is the same and i've tried that one with a couple different recipes. Mango has faded to almost nothing. Watermelon and green tea and pear are ok so far but not terribly strong. That's what I can remember off the top of...

    SLSa in Canada

Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for where to buy SLSa in bulk at a good price in Canada? I've checked the usual places (Voygeur, Windy Point, Candora, ND), and a general google search, i'm just wondering if there's a source I may not think of for this stuff. Thanks!

    Attention Canadians!

@Misschief thanks for the recommendations! I've tried a few of those from other suppliers but there are some new ones i'll have to try out when I try Candora. Thanks for sharing that tip about the reviews @There's Soap! It must be so awesome to live within driving distance to a soap supply...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I packaged them in 4oz compostable plastic portion containers. I used neon pigments from Nurture Soap, so that definitely attracted the kids.

What soapy thing have you done today?

@cmzaha I do recommend the bubble doughs after all. I sold more of them today than soap. Kids would see the bright colours and come over, parents commented how they are good stocking stuffers and loved that it was something different they haven't seen before.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I sold a few today, there seemed to be lots of interest in them from the people that did stop at my booth. It was a good talking point with lots commenting that they had never heard of it before. That said, I didn't have much traffic today overall. It was a small sale, there was another soaper...
