    Lye Pockets?

Was the zap like a sharp zing, or a burning sensation? The sharp zing is lye, the burning is likely FO.

    1 dollar soap

Is it CP? Or M&P? Is it possible she got a really cheap, large batch of M&P at auction or close out sale? In that case she might just be selling til it runs out to see if she likes doing it.

    Neem Oil in Canada

I've searched the threads but can't find this mentioned. I have some neem oil and I would like to make soap to sell but I'm wondering if this is a good idea. Why? Because we aren't allowed to make any therapeutic claims on the labels and I don't know if the average Canadian will even know what...

    Gluten Free Soap????

I had someone ask if my soaps were gluten free and I couldn't resist- I replied "Are you planning to eat the soap, because I'll warn you, it tastes really bad " I then added which soaps contain oats.

    Slimy Bars

Is the slime appearing in the soap dish after you use the bar? Maybe you just need a better draining soap dish? The bar should dry between uses.

    Salt soap bars advice please

Coconut oil really heats as it saponifies. You shouldn't need to oven process it. Mine goes to gel stage in 5-10 minutes just sitting on the counter at 21C room temp.

    Slimy Bars

I've used 40-50% olive oils in some recipes and didn't get slimy. Granted they had a thinner lather than my recipes under 30%, but not slimy. Did you add anything other than the oils, lye/water?

used 3 calcs and get 3 different lye amounts

Sap values are averages, so different calculators would have slightly different numbers based on their sources. That's why recipes always have a superfat %- to allow for a margin for error. I would use the average which would be 90 grams and a minimum 5% superfat.

I get mine from Creations from Eden in Edmonton. Not sure how the price compares, but it's only a 40min. drive for me so its convenient.

    Soapy dreams for 2015???

I plan to learn liquid soap making and perfect my shampoo bar recipe. We have super hard mountain runoff water so it's tough to find a good bar. Gonna try citric acid and egg yolk.

    My NEW Solid Lotion Bar

Perhaps mine gets inadvertently tempered when I melt it with the beeswax. I put all the hard oils in with the beeswax, melt them, then add the soft oils. As you know, beeswax takes a long time to melt. And then it gets immediately poured into silicon cavity molds. They have solidified and are...

    My NEW Solid Lotion Bar

Hmm, I've used mango butter in my lotion bars and it regularly freezes and thaws but no graininess. I use beeswax and no jojoba. And I've never tempered it.

Question about wholesale costs for soap

Not Lindy, but you need to include packaging and labour costs in that too.

    Labeling

Lindy, our regs give me a headache. Last night I went online to look up what would be involved in selling a salve I'm making for my family. Oyivay! I would have to submit the equivalent of a thesis to have it considered under the traditional remedies category. I understand why they do this, but...
