What soapy thing have you done today?

I wouldn't mind taking a few pictures with some measurements but to be honest, mostly the "design" was scribbled on the plywood before I cut it so there's really no plans to share. Yup, I used a guitar string for a cutting wire. I don't know how long it will last with fresh soap. I'm hoping...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Well, if you posted pictures here, it very likely inspired my design. I looked at many cutters before coming up with this design. The only thing I don't like is how sloppy the hinge is. Hopefully it won't make excessively wonky cuts.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Didn't make any soap this weekend. Instead I made a soap cutter. Hopefully this will keep the cut sides of the bars smoother with less drag marks. I can't help but help keep them more even and straight. I'd been looking at the Bud cutters and the copy-cats but just couldn't bring myself to...

    Soapmaker users question

I was using Excel to cost batches also. Soapmaker does way more than I have the patience to figure out how to do in Excel. Stuff I probably don't need today but will be useful if/when I start selling. Since I have used soapcalc for every batch I made to this point I will at least compare...

    Soapmaker users question

I'm an accountant by trade. As you might guess, this means I can get a bit obsessed with the math of my soap making. Yesterday I installed Soapmaker 3 pro and spent a bit of time entering my inventory and exploring the program. The recipe and lye-calc doesn't seem as sophisticated as soapcalc...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Took a few pictures of my curing stash of soaps. In front is the loaf I poured yesterday and cut today. It's a 3-color in-the-pot swirl using three kinds of clay and sweet pea fragrance from WP. In the back we have Pine tar, Coffee, unscented shea butter, and oatmeal porter. Since it's been...

    Essential oils and Fragrances

As another soaper noob, I have spent a fair bit of time trying to figure this out as well. My rule is basically, if I'm not sure, don't buy it. I found some suppliers are very helpful with their descriptions on their sites and others don't tell you much of anything. If you are in the US, Bulk...

    Pine tar soap

Thanks for the reassurances. Now I'll just have to wait for another 6 or 8 weeks so I can use it. Actually, I ended up with one thin slice that I will have to test in a couple weeks.

    Pine tar soap

Hmm... How did that happen? I don't see an option for me to delete my accidental multi-post. Do you have to be a mod to delete posts?

    Pine tar soap

Thanks for the reply. Well, since I've handled the soap and cut it there's not much to see. What's left now is a bit of chalky white residue on top and much of that has wiped off. As for fully dissolved lye, I wouldn't mix if the lye hadn't dissolved fully. I had thought that if there were...

    Where to find ~ 2.25 x 3 inch molds?

I wondered if those style of molds would bulge. Do the shorter, wider ones bulge as well? I kind of figured if I bought those style of molds I would have to make a frame of some sort to keep them straight.

    Where to find ~ 2.25 x 3 inch molds?

I've been looking all over for the "perfect" molds as well. Came across these tall molds on Brambleberry. https://www.brambleberry.com/Tall-12-Silicone-Loaf-Mold-P6073.aspx Not exactly what you are asking for but close.

    Pine tar soap

Following up on yesterdays batch, After letting the soap sit and gel for 6 or 8 hrs I finally had to peak at it. It looked like it may not have fully mixed after all as there were a couple dozen little dots of water on top of the soap. This morning (20 or so hrs after mix) I couldn't resist...

    Pine tar soap

After preparing myself for how tricky a batch of pine tar soap is supposed to be, I made a batch today. We will have to wait for it to cure to see how it turns out but the mix went perfectly and it looks great! I'm going to do my best to be good and not take the cover off the mold until morning...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've been lurking here for a while so finally here's some participation. After looking for several day for molds that I liked, I finally gave up and made a couple. It cost me about $35 for wood and hinges for the two molds. They came out 13.5 x 4 x 4 inside. I plan to make bars ~ 4 x 2.5 x 1...

    Learning to soap

Hello from Jamestown, NC. After lurking for a while and finding answers for many of my questions, I figure it must be time to say hello. So, Hello! I made my first few batches of cp soap about six months ago. What I didn't give away is about gone so it's time to make more. While I do have...
