    Vitamin E in CP soap

I've only made one batch of CP. I have made several batches of soap but almost all have been HP. I add a bit of Vit E after the cook, just before I mold. Mary

    Jumping into business too soon

I was reading forums, watching You Tube videos, learning about soapcalc.org and how to use it, and buying soap from crafters for 4 years before I ever made my first batch of soap. I LOVED IT! I have been making soap for just over a year now. I still smile when I ask a butcher if they will sell...

    Other vendors copying your products

My first recipe truly was my own . It didn't turn out, but not because the recipe wasn't good, it's because I didn't know what to expect - never mind I watched video's, and read blogs for almost 3 years before attempting my own. Once I learned about the soap calculators, I was off to the races...

    Home address on labels

Moody Glenn, you and I are on the same page with this. That was going to be my suggestion. Get a P.O box and list that. I purchase home crafts of all sorts (foods and soaps and more). Never have I seen a home address. Just seems irresponsible to give your home address. I don't know who...

    Crochet Soap Cozy V.1

I do make them. I just got a new computer last month so I don't have the picture on this one to post, but I will try to this week. I use mine as a soap "dish". Making soap has been a wonderful experience, but I truly hate cleaning up after soap. I hadn't used bar soap in years (until I started...

Is a Loaf Soap Cutter Worth it?

I had no idea that cutting was such a big deal. I've only ever used a chef's knife to cut my bars. My bars are fairly consistent in size and as bubbly and silky as can be. I am truly ignorant as to why I'd ever need a fancy cutter. Enlighten me? Second time I've tried to send so what's up...

    Lye Solution Temperature

Hey, I got that tweet. Your saying it really doesn't matter about temps? I can use the heat of the lye solution to melt oils? Well, holy cow, if this is true, soap making just got quicker and easier.

You know you're addicted to soapmaking when...

This is So true of me too. I have to check every store I usually shop in, even though I already know what they carry. Then I got the bright idea to try ethnic stores too. I know where several African, Asian, and European markets are. I pick a few a month (one or two a week ) to stop at just to...

    Lotion bars

I bought a lotion bar this past summer and use it at work. The lady I bought it from wanted a review if I came back to the same farmers market. I gave her one. No one at work liked it because it was to sticky, and the fragrance wasn't very nice. Must have been the womans first attempt as she...

    Lumps of Coal, Christmas Soap

When would you add the charcoal? During the cook or as an additive afterwards?

    Drying new soap

I have read many posts (seems like it) about making soap soon enough to gift (or sell). I was wondering if the beads used in new shoe boxes, electronic equipment and such would work. Would it be ok to store soap for a couple of weeks in those beads? They sell them for drying flowers. You can not...

    Other vendors copying your products

That is a problem. One I've wondered about with sharing recipes too (if a person is in business - I'm not). I hope to one day, but certainly I am not experienced enough to do that yet. I liked the suggestion you got about "the original xyz".

    Frustrating day soaps

I'm so new to the craft that I don't have any business saying anything ... yet. (but I will say something anyway - it's who I am!) The first bar is beautiful! and I LOVE the look of the third picture. I'm not overly fond of the round color bar though, so busy with color, and does not bring to...

These are just beautiful! I especially like the lavender bars.

    Coffee Soap Question

I tried coffee soap. The bars looked beautiful! I just used expresso in place of the water. I ground up some beans and put them in after it had been in the crock pot for a while, just before pouring into my mold. There is absolutely no coffee scent to it at all. I will be making this again, but...

How is this for a basic shampoo bar recipe?

How does a person calculate or even know how much superfat to use? Does a shampoo bar use the same lye as my body soap? Am I correct is thinking that the more superfat you do, shorter the life of the soap?
