DOS but Oil Doesn't Seem to be Rancid

Could it be the nickel? Most stainless has nickel, unless it's properly hypoallergenic for jewelry. (Something I discovered the hard way b/c of metal allergy.) I just got started myself, and not wanting to spend too much money to start, I bought a large package of cross stitch plastic for this...

Why is coconut considered a hard oil?

I trained to be a chef before chronic illness kicked my butt... It's interesting to see the different fats discussed as applies to soap rather than food!

Awww, no regrets! If it makes you feel any better, I'm a total noob and found this whole thread very interesting.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm setting up to make my 3rd ever batch of soap. My 1st was weird, but useful, my 2nd is awesome, so now I'm trying Zany's castile recipe! :D I'm adding a bit of kaolin and lavender EO. Fingers crossed that my OO is really OO!

    Allergies anyone?

I have a ton of crazy allergies, which is one of the reasons I'm learning to make soap. I would like to be able to have nice, handmade soaps, but when I look at the ingredients in most handmade soaps, there's almost always something I either know I'm allergic or sensitive to, or something I...

Usage rate for essentials in LS

Can I just say that all the talk of snot and snotting simultaneously makes me want to laugh and run screaming from the very idea of liquid soap? My kids all blow their own noses now, and it's very nice, so maybe I'll stick with bars.

    Expired ingredients

Omg. I'm horrified for you! How awful! Edit to add: You know, maybe she really was still soaping until relatively recently and didn't understand that expiration dates aren't just for food items. If she was using expired goods, her business would have tanked. So unethical to sell her crap rather...

    Hello from metro Detroit

No zap on any of it! I've separated the clear from the creamy and am going to heat the creamy again, take my hand mixer to it, and add some essential oils and either salt or sugar to make a foot scrub. The clear liquid... I don't know yet. We don't use liquid soap!

    Hello from metro Detroit

Heh. Yeah, I left the oven on for an hour or so, then turned it off. Oops! And now I definitely have half a batch of clearish liquid soap and half a batch of creamy soap. At least it's usable, right? I got a bunch of my soaping supplies at Dollar Tree, and other stuff from Amazon, and oils and...

What soapy thing have you done today?

There's a bit of a story behind my morning... My first soap attempt was on the 4th. It went okay, but I did a CPOP on a heavy OO soap, let it go too long to boot, so it separated a bit. I let it sit for a week or so while I read and YouTubed more, deciding what to do. I decided more CO would...

    Hello from metro Detroit

Hi all... My name is Michelle, but that was taken so I'm using my gaming handle for my account. :D I caught the soaping bug the way I do everything else... See it, get curious, research obsessively for a bit, and dive in head first. My kids and husband have even learned a lot about soap because...

    Greetings from New Mexico

Hurrah for NM! I'm from Isleta (where my dad's side lives) and hope to move back someday, but I was raised and spent most of my life here in Detroit, MI w/ mom's side. My NM family is regularly horrified by our weather up here.
