    Benefits of a salt bar?

Oh darn, guess we'll just have to soak in the tub again! :tub:

She's making me hungry though, talking about the chip shop, fish & chips, and the new KFC in town. She's fun!

    Benefits of a salt bar?

It's good that y'all are sharing the info about Himalayan pink salt. I had planned to use some for salt bars but now I'll stick to plain, fine sea salt. If anyone has bought the Himalayan for soap, you can use it in your cooking. (Is there Himalayan salt that isn't food safe? I've only seen it...

Future primitive soap co on Youtube

Wow, I can't imagine having to go through all that in order to sell! Not that I have any intention of selling anytime soon, if ever... But it's nice to know that so long as I stay out of the "cosmetic" category here in the US, it's all good. But I totally get why you would be interested in the...

    Zany's no slime castile

Same here! I'm Native American, so my hair is very straight, nearly black, and won't take dye without a lot of extra time, effort, and dye. Okay, it also doesn't style easily at all because it's so heavy. I'm pretty sure it will make someone a very sturdy wig. :D

    Best CP Soap Books?

I picked up two books by Susan Miller Cavitch - The Natural Soap Book and The Soapmaker's Companion - plus The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso before I bought any ingredients or tools. The Companion and Everything books have a lot of instructive info for beginners, material about...

    Zany's no slime castile

So like I said, I just did a big chop... 18 inches to be exact! And I'd read a while back that Pantene sells some donated hair, so I googled. Apparently they aren't accepting hair at all anymore because synthetics are cheaper! https://pantene.com/en-us/beautiful-lengths I'm planning to...

Am I overly worried about lye?

OMG @DeeAnna! I'm a cook by trade and I've never come close to that kind of injury! The worst I've ever done is slicing a good layer off the pad of one thumb. It was enough that a normal person would have stopped everything and gone to the ER... but I just cleaned it, taped a bandage on...

    Zany's no slime castile

Oooh, really? I recently did a big chop on my hair and now I'm considering shampoo bars. I have a batch of semi-Castile (ran short on OO and had to use a bit of grapeseed oil) with kaolin and lavender EO aging now, but perhaps I'll have to try that too!

    Lard Vs Palm

Okay, I have to ask the noob question... What would happen with 30% palm kernel oil?

    Haunted by lard/tallow

Initially I had ruled out using animal fats for soap because my mother is vegetarian and squeamish about such things. But the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to use animal fats in my family's personal use soaps and just change the formula for things I give to Mom. After all, there...

I'm super new to soaping too, and I blame Ophelia's Soapery for it, too. :D Her stuff is so gorgeous! I highly recommend buying a few bars to give yourself a happy thing while you're working out how to make your own. It's what I'm doing and it helps soothe the frustration. For single oil soaps...

DOS but Oil Doesn't Seem to be Rancid

Lol I knew there was something familiar about your tech-speak! My mom is a chemical engineer in the auto industry, and she sounds just like that when someone asks her about fuels & oils. :D

What soapy thing have you done today?

Oh goodness, I'm light years away from making egg soap! But if someone finds a weird, stringy bit in their soap... Yeah, old habits die hard! I almost forgot! I unmolded and cut my Zany castile! Okay, so the directions said to do it tomorrow, but patience isn't my strong suit. It looks...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Egg soap question: When using eggs, is it necessary to strain out or otherwise remove the chalazae at some point? If I remember correctly, they're a kind of protein... Will a SB break them down sufficiently and/or does the lye break them down? If I make a nice custard, I strain them out if...

Oooh, do you think the lye started working on the fat in the GM when you weren't looking?

    Question about gel

On the wire/knife bubble question... Could the wire issue be a matter of cutting *too* cleanly? I'm yet to slice a soap because I've used individual molds until just today, but new soaps can have a softer consistency that reminds me of some cheeses. When cutting with a wire, there's probably no...
