    Activated charcoal

I don't think AC in soap stays on the skin long enough to have any real benefit but I may be wrong!

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

Actually, why does soap with soy wax need to be CPOPed? I thought that this was only required when using high% of liquid oils, soaping at low temps, and using natural colorants?

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

Ha, I am well on my way! They sit on a shelf next to every possible type of clay:dance:

    Scrap soap with old fats

I considered 0% SF but when I dissolved the lye in water the temperature shot up to close to 90 C, so I figured it can't be that impure... maybe I was wrong. Besides, the prospect of a lye-heavy soap scares me more than death itself so I gave myself a bit of a safety margin. Hopefully the 1%...

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

ah what a great find! you guys are the best :nodding: I am just to about to buy some. thanks for the heads-up @SeaSuds! I've never CPOPed my soaps before so this is going to be an interesting experiment. what's also going to be interesting is finding storage space for the ~10 kg of soaping...

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

thanks for the info @Marsi! Would love to try this out, but it looks like GW415 is unavailable in the UK. Most soy wax types are sold out at the moment, and the ones that aren't don't explicitly state "100% hydrogenated soy wax"

    Scrap soap with old fats

I've got some old palm oil, mango butter 😢, OO pomace, and macadamia nut oil that I can't bear to throw away. I had the idea to make a sort of "scrap" soap with a high percentage of these oils for personal use as I don't mind DOS if it's just a cosmetic issue. Ideally, the soap will gentle and...

    Gentler, longer-lasting bar without lard

So I was looking in the wrong places! Thanks @DeeAnna, I'll be on a lookout for those high monounsat fats next time I'm in a supermarket. @Marsi and @cmzaha thanks for your feedback- I feel like I'm so much more prepared to take on this recipe now  I really want to try lanolin in soap for...

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

This is really interesting, thanks for sharing! Is soy wax you refer to the same soy wax people use for making candles, e.g. C3?

What OO do you use for your soap?

I have always used OO pomace, and it does not colour my bars at all. A soap with 85% pomace, 10% CO, and 5 % castor (Zany's no-slime bastille) came out pure white. I think it also has a longer shelf life than EVOO, but it does accelerate trace in my experience.

    Gentler, longer-lasting bar without lard

thank you for the warm welcome and all your suggestions! :) @ridnovir, I would be interested to try your formula because I do have kokum butter on hand, but I just cannot seem to find high oleic oils anywhere. Or maybe I am looking in the wrong places? 😬 PKO is also quite hard to find and much...

    Vaseline Soap questions

I just remembered about SAP values (it's all too easy to over-rely on SoapCalc and forget about the chemistry behind the numbers). The SAP values for lanolin wax and oil are 0.076 and 0.071, respectively (Saponification Chart). So I guess if I use oil but calculate for wax then that will just...

    Gentler, longer-lasting bar without lard

My previous go-to soap recipe (30% CO, 20% OO pomace, 20% palm oil, 13% apricot kernel, 10% shea, and 7% castor; 5% SF, 30% lye) is quite drying and doesn't last very long. Thanks to this forum, I found out that it's likely due to the high CO and (possibly) OO. I also learned that I don't need...

    Vaseline Soap questions

@DeeAnna thanks, will do! I just noticed that Soap Calc does not have lanolin oil, only lanolin wax... can I just use the wax option to calculate the lye needed?

    Vaseline Soap questions

DeeAnna- I watched the vid on your blog and saw that you use lanolin wax (the type that needs to be warmed up before adding to soap). I just inspected my stash and found a bottle of lanolin liquid (pourable consistency at room temp)...

    Ricing or partial gel?

My soaps are all for personal use and I don't like heavily perfumed bars, so I scent them all at 3% out of habit and it is usually enough. That said, I once made a watermelon soap with 3% FO and the fragrance had completely dissipated by the end of curing time, so the bars looked the part but...

    Ricing or partial gel?

Thank you for the quick reply DeeAnna. These are very helpful tips! I see that I did all the wrong things with this batch- I added a new FO to the batter at medium trace and stick blended . I have used FOs from The Soap Kitchen before and they never gave me any trouble so I think next...

    Ricing or partial gel?

I tried to make a honeycomb soap the other day. It was all fine until I stick blended the fragrance in (honey FO from The Soap Kitchen)- the batter riced and since it was already quite thick I did not stick blend any further, poured it into the mold and hoped for the best. I was able to unmold...
