Can we please talk about super fat?

Ok, so I know a little about super fatting and I wanted to see if what I understood was correct and also if you more experienced soapers could give their thoughts and experiences. Please tell me if I am wrong on my assertions about the affects of super fatting your CP soap. I have gone...

    Looking for earthy lavender FO

Thank you everyone for your fantastic lavender recommendations. I will def. try the Elements FO's mentioned. I have purchased from them in the past and their lavender FO got great reviews.

    Looking for earthy lavender FO

Thank you both Shunt2011 and Judymoody! Those are both great suggestions. Shunt2011 - I have not had much luck with Nature's Garden FO, but I'm always willing to give it another try. Judymoody - I have heard of lavandin, but was not really sure how to use it or what it was. I will...

    Looking for earthy lavender FO

I thought I had found the perfect lavender FO from Daystar, but it's not listed on her site any longer. I liked mixing it with lavender EO. It smelled exactly like the EO. I have tried Tassie Lavender from two suppliers and the lavender from WSP, but I want a more earthy herbaly lavender...

    Extreme Arachnophobia

Tuesday night I had just received a lovely FO sample and as I'm testing it I see something large and black in the bottle... It's a HUGE dead spider! I screamed so loud my husband thought I had spilled lye on myself. It was truly massive and I'm terrified of spiders, as is my husband...

    Aromafix?

Well I used 5%, so we shall see. I can try it again at a lower % with the same FO and I will report back. It thickened the soap considerably and it's the consistency of corn syrup. I have more soaping to do tomorrow so I will try it at 1-2%.

    Aromafix?

I own a small bottle but have never used it. I'm not sure how much to use. I'm happy to do two test soaps today, one with and one without and report back. Still not sure how much to use though. I see it say 2-5%. Now to choose a fragrance.....

    Soybean Oil? Anyone Tried It.

I don't like soy oil either. Earlier this year I made 3 batches of soap all the same except one oil. Soy, avocado and almond were the three oils. The soap with soy was the worst one. Very few bubbles, avocado was the best. Everyone is different, but this was my experience.

    Hard water

If you want more slip, I find olive oil and almond oil give it. I try to control the amounts I use since I don't like my soap too slippery, but I don't want them to drag on the skin either.

How do people respond to your soap?

Yes! I did not get helpful feedback at all, except from my husband. My own parents did not say much and when I would ask months later I would get "Oh, it was nice." I gave a bunch away to be tested and one person set it aside and forgot about it until I asked him 6 months later...and I work...

Water TD vs Oil TD observation

IrishLass - I'm only using 1 tsp PPO, but maybe sometimes when I'm making soap on the fly and want more, I may be adding a tiny bit more. That may be when the brittleness is happening, but it has happened with I'm using exactly 1 tsp PPO. Crombie - I tried your method and it was much...

Saying no to a custom order customer

Wow! I commend you for your polite response in light of them suggesting you don't know how to make soap. I hope when I have my business set up I will be able to keep my composure as you have done. All I can say is they have a lot of nerve suggesting that and I would have suggested they...

Water TD vs Oil TD observation

Seven-I think the water TD is easier to use, but my soap gets brittle eventually. I read that it has chemicals in it to make it water soluble and these chemicals may react with CP soap hence brittle soap. Not sure if it's true or not, but it's too unpredictable for me. Not sure if it...

NG Fresh Brewed Coffee "World's Best"

I have the fragrance, but never soaped it. It smells very bad to me OOB so I have been too afraid to try it. I have used two coffee fragrances from Candlescience and they both morphed to something horrible in my soap. I think, for me anyway, coffee fragrances don't work in CP soap. I do...

Water TD vs Oil TD observation

I'm having issues with the water soluble TD now. I think it makes my soap brittle, so I have tried using the Oil TD, but keep getting specks no matter what I do. Has anyone had success with the Oil TD from WSP? I sifted 1/2 tsp over my warm oils, let sit for 15 minutes and then stick...

    Cucumber

I've soaped with sweetcake's cucumber. From what I recall it does stick, but it's a super fast mover. I think it almost seized on me so be careful.

Jojoba beads - Anyone use them?

eucalypta - I did not gel my soap and i use small molds so I know it never heated much. They are just scratchy. Too bad because they are pretty.

Jojoba beads - Anyone use them?

Obsidian - I'm finding the same thing. I like a smooth soap, but like specks. I have used sandalwood powder and grounds adzuki beans that were not too scratchy, but I prefer nothing. I do like marigold leaves. They are pretty and only give slight texture. DiddlyO - thanks for the...

Jojoba beads - Anyone use them?

I used 1/4 tsp PPO in a recent soap. The soap looks great, but they are horribly scratchy. I was thinking I should use more and it might be better since they would be closer together. Not sure if that sounds logical or not. The package say 1-2 tablespoons per pound, so someone must use...

    Instant Headache with Peak's Lilac

Seawolfe - I have the same problem with perfumes. We can't help it if it causes headaches and some peoples perfume is offensive! Susie - I never thought of the phthalates. I have many fragrances and the only other one that caused this was the Lemon Verbena from Candlescience. It's not...
