For those doing HP, CP or MP what's the preferance

I love the artistry in CP techniques. Never tried MP, I'd rather formulate my own recipes than use a pre-made base. I've only tried HP for making shaving soap, they're a bit too rustic looking for me.

    cotton candy fragrance oil

I used the WSP Cotton Candy and while I liked the smell, it definitely discoloured my white soap to a light tan. Boo! So cross that one off your list.

I have a fun plan for this soap! Hopefully I'll get my entry done in the next couple days. :D

    Favorite Go To Soap

Bingo! Exotic oils and butters are nice for label appeal, but definitely not necessary for a good bar of soap. I'd like to experiment a little more with shea butter in my recipes, but that's the only exotic oil I'm really interested in. I like leaving stuff like argan, jojoba, meadowfoam for...

    Favorite Go To Soap

This is my fave right now. I'm going to experiment more with my tallow to lard ratios. And maybe some olive oil alternatives. 25% Tallow 25% Lard 25% Olive Oil 20% Coconut Oil 5% Castor Oil 35% Lye Concentration 3% Superfat

It's been in the oven for almost 2 hours!

Fresh soap really does a number on my skin. Awful dry feeling like all the moisture has been sucked from my hands! It's interesting how everyone's skin is different. OP, it's an excellent idea to test your soap as it cures and write down thorough notes. How it feels on your skin, how the lather...

    First Timer :D

Welcome! Digital kitchen scales are under $20 on Amazon or at Walmart, and absolutely essential for soapmaking, as others have said! :) You could always put this batch aside for a week then see how it is after a cure and check for zap. It's hard to know how to save it when we don't know your...

    My first CPLS

Looks nice to me! I've only made liquid soap once and mine looked very similar and diluted very nicely. The dilution rate I used was 1 part paste to .62 part water and it came out thick like honey. Remember - you can always add more water if you want it thinner, but you can't to the opposite. :)

    MMS/SoapCalc

A shot in the dark here... but do you cure your soaps on a metal rack? That's a pretty common cause of DOS. :)

    Oil base temperature

For most general recipes, lye can be between room temperature (20C / 68F) and 49C / 120F. Oil temperature mainly depends on what combination of oils you're using. Some oils have a higher melting point (like palm oil, or butters) so you may want to work a little bit hotter. If you're using a lot...

Judging by the that video, I think my diagram is correct! Unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious lol.

    Hello from James Bond

I'd say the two big things are a stick-blender and digital food scale. I bought both of mine on Amazon. Here are the ones I use: Stick-blender: http://a.co/cKXUdJh Scale: http://a.co/a993d7S It's nice to have a stick-blender with a stainless steel bell, because some plastic ones can break...

    Hello from James Bond

Welcome, Mr. Bond. After you buy all the initial equipment for soapmaking, you can make soap for yourself very cheaply!

For my own reference, I made a cutting guide to wrap my brain around the cutting technique. - This diagram shows a skinny mold (since that's what I have lol). - You'd start with the pink cuts, then do the blue cuts. Does this look about right?

    My Bad...

I think you gave her some great, realistic advice. Selling soap/BB products AND making a decent profit is incredibly difficult, especially with the market so saturated.

Up here in northern Ontario, it's currently -23C (with wind chill, -32C). Tonight it's supposed to dip down to -28C (wind chill -40C). I have to keep hot water running in my taps or my pipes will freeze. No fun! Very jealous of you folks in southern climates right now.
