What soapy thing have you done today?

Thank you! :) Aaaand I just ordered 18 FOs from Nurture to try out. I'm pretty pumped. I'll make sure to keep good notes on my impressions to share here.

Should Coconut Milk look like this from the can ??

Yup that's how it looks if you don't shake it up well before opening the can. :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

2 soaps today, still playing around with veggie recipes. The first one is an unscented Castille with dual-lye (90 NaOH / 10 KOH) and full vinegar replacement. Soaped like a dream and cut into bars in about 5 hours. Second one was a 50% OO, 30% CO, 10% Cocoa Butter and 10% Castor. Accelerated...

    Input on recipe needed

I think I'd fully remove the coconut to avoid irritating sensitive dog skin. I personally prefer using a pH-balanced dog shampoo to avoid any potential issues. Itchy dogs aren't nice to deal with!

Hot process shaving soap - does this look reasonable?

Well, castor oil stabilizes lather in CP, so I assume it would serve a similar function in shave soap.

    seaweed in soap

Well, they'd definitely turn brown. Not sure if they'd be scratchy on the skin but they could be. I'm curious also!

ph of olive oil based soap

Misinformation about soapmaking is very prevalent, unfortunately! The "HP cures fast" myth is touted by a lot of people who assume saponification is the same as curing. As for setting your water amount in a lye calculator, it boils down to personal preference. I like to use the "Lye...

    mouse chews

I had about 5 or 6 domestic rats growing up. They were such sweet, smart little guys with big personalities. They learned their names and loved to play and they'd snuggle in bed with me tucked under my neck! I know wild rats aren't nearly as cute, but I could never intentionally harm them...

    What thickness is your soap?

I like mine a bit thicker at 1.25".

You're welcome! I was pleasantly surprised on how effective it was.

    Lost in scents

When a scent "sticks", it means that it can still be smelled after a long cure. So 6 months, 1 year, 2 years down the road... the scent of the soap has not faded into nothing - it sticks around. Most fragrances will not linger on the skin for long after bathing. I'm not much help with EOs as I...

Carrier oil for roll on EO??

My fave roll-on perfume oil company uses rice bran oil. I love their perfumes!

ph of olive oil based soap

Either HP or CP should be cured for at least 4 weeks for it to be a nice bar of soap. Either can technically be used as soon as they're fully saponified, but they won't be awesome quality. The curing process removes water and changes the microscopic structure of the soap, making it more mild...

Is anyone else here for personal use products only?

I made my own laundry soap just to try it out! It worked fine but the grating was such a pain that I haven't tried again. It was just grated 100% CO soap with 0%SF, mixed equally with borax. Otherwise I just use my own bar soaps and liquid soaps instead of store-bought. I use my liquid soap as...
