    Recipes and scent retention

It's definitely tricky to find those magical FOs that stick for years. It takes some trial and error. I mostly buy my FOs from WholesaleSuppliesPlus and Nurture Soap. I have a few WSP-FO soaps that still smell super strong after a year or longer. Their Love Spell FO is one that comes to mind -...

Where can i buy a white opaque silicone mould

Correct me if I'm wrong but... I don't think clear silicone molds exist? I've never seen one. They're always opaque or very slightly translucent - never clear like glass. Some people use clear acrylic moulds for soapmaking. Is there a reason it needs to be clear?

I'm happy that my first attempt to make homemade yogurt yesterday was a great success! Woohoo!

Silly Things About Soaping You Hear On The Internet

Yeah I've looked around for local free beef/pork fat... no dice. I bought some just to try out the whole rendering process and I wouldn't do it again. So much time... and it made my house smell awful LOL. I'll stick to buying commercially rendered animal fats from Walmart and Soapers Choice!

Not so new, but an intro all the same

Welcome! I agree, soaps make excellent thank you gifts in many situations! That's great that you're helping animals too. :)

    Best additive to mimic sand?

I did have a look at that one! Seems like general consensus is make sure to sterilize it and achieve a heavier trace to keep it suspended, but no mention of how it might affect pipes.

    Best additive to mimic sand?

Oh boy, what a great idea! Definitely adding that to my list. Perhaps a bit too complex for the 50+ wedding favor soaps but I'd really like to try it sometime! Real sand is an interesting idea - but I wonder if it'd be bad for pipes. Even small amounts could possibly accumulate in the pipes, I...

What are your favorite FO's to use?

Nurture's Flame Tree is my current fave. I can't stop sniffing those bars, they're heavenly. I'm looking forward to trying their Juicy Apricot too, it smells unbelievable OOB. I also really like WSP Love Spell for a nice non-floral feminine scent. Sticks like crazy too.

    Best additive to mimic sand?

I've definitely been googling these types of soaps, they are so gorgeous! I'm aiming for something similar. A combo of a couple different additives is a good idea - since sand is often a combination of dark and light tones.

    Best additive to mimic sand?

Thanks all for the recommendations! Looks like I have a few additives to try out. Maybe I'll see what I can find local and do some little test batches. :)

    Best additive to mimic sand?

I took a peek at the scrub additives on WSP, and finely ground walnut shell powder seems like a nice option: http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/products/walnut-shell-powder.aspx Anyone tried that before?

    Best additive to mimic sand?

I guess I'm looking more for suggestions on achieving the speckled look. I have some fab yellow micas from Nurture that should cover the yellow part!

    Best additive to mimic sand?

Thank you so much! It's in May, coming up fast. We're getting married in Mexico. We are beyond thrilled and excited for this! :) I thought a "beach soap" would definitely be suitable, hehe.

    Best additive to mimic sand?

Howdy fine folks! I am planning out a soap design to give out as wedding favours for my upcoming wedding! I'm thinking a gradient blue with "sand" at the bottom, like a beach. What additive would be best to add to the yellow "sand" layer to make it look speckled? Pumice? Something else?

    Beer soap too many bubbles

I believe IrishLass likes to use 2 tbsp PPO sugar in some recipes. So you do have some wiggle room. If you keep adding more and more sugar you'll eventually get to the point where the soap starts turning weird. I believe it can become rather spongy and sticky with too much sugar. I'm not sure...

    My first recipe.

If you have access to lard and castor oil you'll have a nice assortment for a general use, balanced bar. You could do 40% lard, 30% olive oil, 25% coconut oil and 5% castor.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Finally tested the lather of an all-veggie recipe I tried. I'm super pleased with it! Nice mix of big fluffy bubbles and dense long-lasting ones. I think I'll need to make it again. 40% HO Safflower 30% Avocado 10% Shea Butter 10% Cocoa Butter 10% Castor Oil 100% Vinegar Replacement 95% NaOH...

So I bought some artisan chocolates...

Oh no! Was this at a craft show type deal? That's unfortunate.

Question: Is a yogurt container too thin to store lye solution?

Good call! A screw-on lid does seem much safer. I'll have to peek through my recycling to see if I have a detergent bottle.
