    Painted on pencil line?

Just thinking that we could get a nice marble effect with this. I've got to try that. ...with charcoal, white main soap, grey soap, oh and I have some copper mica that I could try to put a vein in with. Hmmm...

    Painted on pencil line?

Nice. I had the same problem with the line being pushed to the sides. My sides are ug-lee! What if we mixed the colourant into a thin small amount of soap and brush it on?

    sticky sticky recipe

I third that that should be a firm recipe after a day or two, not weeks.

    Painted on pencil line?

Thank you Lenarenee. It's growing on me. I think I can improve on it a bit. Any idea if there's a name for this swirl? I can't remember if she called it anything in the video.

    Painted on pencil line?

Did you use dry mica, Obsidian, or in oil? I have a hard time keeping things at thin trace because I use clays and a bit of a water discount.

    Painted on pencil line?

Yes, me too. I wonder if I use castor oil instead of SAO and used less if I could get a better result. I guess I will just have to try!

    Painted on pencil line?

Ok it was hard enough to cut so I did. There was still a tiny bit of oil on the outside so I wiped it off. The swirl is not quite what I pictured, but it's a start. Unfortunately, the oil slick caused some gaps on the side of the bars. The greens are powdered spinach and French green clay...

    Painted on pencil line?

Thanks, yes. There is still a tiny bit of oil around the sides of the liner when I pull it away and it's too soft to cut so it might have to be in the morning. But the sides look really interesting anyway.

    Painted on pencil line?

Thanks for the vids, Obsidian. The effect I was hoping for was basically an outlined drop swirl. I wanted the dropped soap to push the coloured oil down with it. I will post pics tonight if it's ready to cut.

    Painted on pencil line?

Amazing! I just peeked (can't sleep) and all the oil has been absorbed!

    Painted on pencil line?

Do you have a pic of how it turns out, Lenarenee? The video doesn't include cut pics and I didn't catch the woman's business name to look for them.

    Painted on pencil line?

I'm going to force it through gel and see what it looks like after. I'm hoping it will be absorbed, as the SAO was a part of the total oils.

    Painted on pencil line?

Ok that did not go well. I mixed the cocoa powder in with 50g Sweet Almond Oil and it was very thin. It basically just gushed up around the soap I was pouring. Way too thin and now I have a thin oily mess on top of my soap. Ugg.

    Painted on pencil line?

Hmmm, it might also be challenging to have the bottom layer set up enough to hold the cocoa oil but still let the drop swirl happen. Might be tricky...

    Painted on pencil line?

The idea was to do a drop swirl on top of the pencil line to push it into the bottom layer. So completely even or straight is not necessarily needed. I think I will try it tonight and see how it goes. I already have the lye cooled. ;)

    Painted on pencil line?

I was brainstorming for a new look for a new scent of my soap, and thought of mixing cocoa powder in a bit of oil to make 'paint' and then brushing or smoothing it on to make a pencil line, instead of using a dry powder. Has anyone done this? Does it help to avoid the perils of separation at the...

Ok so humidity is not a factor then!

pH challenge by Dr. Kevin Dunn

This was posted on Facebook this morning. It applies to both bar soap and liquid. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1080560095293056&id=123574497658292 Hopefully that link works. You might need to be on Facebook to see it.

    Goat's soap

Irishlass, what part of the world are you located in? Just wondering if relative humidity makes a difference. I'm in a part of Canada that is fairly dry (just slightly more average rainfall than Arizona).

    Goat's soap

I am using a 1-year old true Castille and it doesn't have any sliminess left. The lather is even pretty decent. Not on par with my regular soaps but nothing to complain about.
