What is the source of the EO? I use lavender 40/42 from NDA at 3% and it's really strong, even months later.

I'll have to take a picture of my fuzzy ash next time I make that batch, for comparison. I can't drop the water any further in that one due to the clay-it would just thicken up too fast! But I just brush it off when I wrap and it doesn't recur.

I get that fuzzy ash on a charcoal and red clay soap that I CPOP. It's also got Star Anise EO, and it's the only soap I make that gets fuzzy ash. Now I'm thinking that maybe it's related to the star anise...

I do! And I agree, it's the cleanest, truest mint flavour. I dehydrate it for tea.

I do the same as Obsidian. I have bars that are 18 months old with no issues or DOS.

I use apricot kernel at max 10% and haven't had any issues with DOS. ETA: it really makes a nice soap.

Just to clarify: The sodium lactate, if I make it into 60% solution, I use the solution at 3% of paste weight?

Thank you so much, DeeAnna! That is exactly the info I was hoping someone would have. That's awesome. I'm hoping to make myself a test shampoo and I think the citrate would help with the horrible buildup I get with bar soap (which I haven't tried adding citric acid to yet). So many projects, so...

I live in an area with very hard water, and I wondered if it is advisable to use a little citric acid in with the KOH? Would that act as a chelator for hard water? I searched the liquid soap board but the only references I found were for using CA to neutralize. I did look up potassium citrate...

Update: I added 25g more water and it immediately started to clear. By morning it was beautiful and fully cleared. It is a tiny bit thinner than I'd like so 1:1 is maybe a smidge more water than I'd like. But it's beautiful to use, not drying. And I added 1% Orange 10x EO and it smells...

My sodium lactate is a powder form. It absorbs moisture readily though, so it has clumped up into chunks.
