    Liquid Castille Separating

Could your superfat be off? What was your KOH purity?

Lardinators! What lard do you use?

I'm in Canada, but I render my own from a local farmer. $5 for about 5kg of mixed pig fat. Although if I can get straight leaf lard or fat, I hoard it for pastry. Yum!

    Experimenting with goats milk recipes

    And your method?

    Experimenting with goats milk recipes

28% lye concentration? Or as a % of oil weight? Oh, sorry, I just opened the photo. I usually use 32% lye concentration without issue. Are you replacing all the water with goatsmilk? I usually use 50% GM in mine. Also, high olive will give you a yellow-green tint at the start but it cures out...

    Coconut butter vs. Coconut oil

I use coconut fibre in my mechanics soap. Very scrubby.

    Body Butter-Lid Condensation

Where is the water coming from-the air, or is there water in your recipe? Sorry, that may seem like an odd question, but I've seen some things...

    A few Questions.

The spots look like air bubbles to me. I don't shrink wrap, so I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't think you would do it until the bars are fully cured. I would think that the plastic would prevent evaporation.

    Canadian Supply Question

Where are you in BC? There are quite a few good suppliers in BC, although I don't do MP so I can't speak to that. I'm in Alberta, by the way.

I think every batch of soap I've made is lye heavy...

Yay! Glad you got it all figured out.

I think every batch of soap I've made is lye heavy...

Are you in Canada? Because the price you paid on Amazon is at least 4 times what you should be paying. I can let you know some better sources if you'd like.

Please help me understand these recipes

I personally find cocoa butter in soap too cleansing. Even at 10% it left my skin tight-feeling. So I replaced it with avocado oil and it's much nicer.

Are you tasting the powdery ash that forms on the top?

I think every batch of soap I've made is lye heavy...

It would be a distinctive shock feeling. I suspect you are reacting to an additive. What was in the recipe?

Need help with CPOP goat milk soap

I CPOP goat's milk soap. I only replace 50% of my water with frozen goats milk. I watch it very carefully in a pre-warmed but off oven. It does darken in colour to a dark cream, almost yellow. Edited to add: I only have to do this now because it is winter here and the house is cool (~20C). In...

Will oven processing in CPOP damage the oven?

On the homemade solar ovens-aren't most of them made with aluminum foil? If that is the design you are looking at, I would stay away from the aluminum. Lye and aluminum react badly. And there is still active lye when you put your mold in, so if it volcanoed, I'm not sure but I would suspect it...

SMF Soapmaking Challenge November: Drop and Skewer

Arg. I didn't get my soap made. I had a large 2-day sale this weekend and it completely consumed my time. Sorry to all those who have lost loved ones recently. So sad to see those posts.

Has anyone else read this article?

I saw this guys rant posted on the HSCG Facebook page looking for thoughts, and to me the Doterra "giveaway" at the end was suspicious. Also, it terms of liability, doesn't it become a chain of responsibility? Like the soapmaker is responsible to their customers but then the supplier is...

    Recipe Check, Questions re: Jojoba/Meadowfoam

I use avocado oil up to 15% and have not had even a little DOS in 2-year old soap. I love what it brings to the recipe, lovely mildness.

SMF Soapmaking Challenge November: Drop and Skewer

Ok the deadline for submissions is tomorrow right? Can it be before end of day? I've had a crazy week and a big show today, so I haven't made mine yet. But if I make it first thing, I should be able to cut it tonight (CPOP). I thought about trying some micas I was given at the soap conference...
