There are no hard and fast rules. Some people pour hot lye solution into solid oils. Others mix the oils and lye solution at approximately the same temperature which can be at room temperature or higher. As a beginner, I would recommend that your lye and soaping oils be approximately 100-110...
Canola oil has a relatively short shelf life so I'd reduce that to 10-15% of the recipe and use olive oil for the balance. To check for lye heaviness you can do the zap test (wet your finger, run it along the soap, have a taste). If it tastes like soap and doesn't zap your tongue, it's good to...
I use lye solution to clean my stove grates and drains and the like. Do you have an appropriate container to store the lye in so you could use it as a cleaning product instead of throwing it away?
Respectfully, while I agree with the majority opinion that it is short sighted and unwise to attempt selling in mass quantities with little to no experience, could you refrain from making assumptions about "his culture." There is no information on the OP's public profile about where he is from...
I would lower the SF if you want to cut grime quickly. I'd try 25% coconut, 40% lard, 5% castor, and 30% liquid oil of choice, at 5% superfat. Maybe add some citrus EO and either pumice or finely ground oats.
Depends on your coconut milk and the soaping oils in your recipe. Look at the nutrition info on the can. Determine how many grams of fat are contained within the amount of coconut you will use in your recipe. That's your superfat by weight. Then you convert it to % If you don't want to do...
I have only used the beads. If you wipe down the edge of your container with a dryer sheet, it cuts down on the static.
You might want to look at Essential Depot. 10 lbs is 31.99 with free shipping.
Fresh herbs are generally not a good idea - they can go moldy. I suspect that yours will turn brown or black over time, due to contact with active lye. You can probably just pick them off after the soap hardens. Might leave an interesting pattern or impression underneath.
I'm sorry you were disappointed. Were these scents that you had ordered before from this particular supplier? If you have small samples left over and these larger amounts smell different, then I think the chances for a refund are better. That said, suppliers often change their formulations...
My go-to recipe has five oils - CO, PO, OO, castor, and whatever butter I have on hand (cocoa, mango, shea, etc.) I've done as many as 8 and as few as 3 and this is a nice happy medium for me.
I have tried this - both lavender tea and lavender-infused oil and it's not strong enough to survive the lye. Also, if you use the dried flowers in CP soap, they will turn brown and look like mouse poop. Ask me how I know!
You could try infusing oil with dried lavender and then making a salve...
Actually, the best thing you can do if you spill lye solution on yourself is to rinse with copious amounts of plain water. Don't put vinegar directly on your skin in the case of a lye burn.
