What is happening to my soap??

If it's oozing out of little pockets (the upper left of the image suggests that might be so), I'd rebatch. If the surface is smooth and even, it might be worth waiting but I'd still test the liquid by some means to determine if it is caustic.

    How do you lye?

Gloves and goggles, HDPE pitcher with lots of head space, in the utility sink in my drafty unheated garage. I hold my breath, stir until clear and leave the area. I come back 20 minutes later. I have heard horror stories about that one stray lye granule that ended up in somebody's eye to...

    Bramble Berry Removed My Review?

Well, that is disappointing to hear. If a vendor welcomes reviews on site, they should accept the critical along with the favorable ones.

    Soap with petals question

yes, you can do this in a horizontal mold. You will just have to make sure that the consistency is think enough that you will have an even line between the layers. You can pour the second layer over the blade of a spatula so it goes into the mold more slowly and with greater control. It won't...

    Cinnamon Pumpkin Soap

Perfect! looks like a beautiful pie with whipped cream. Did you scent just the bottom part or the top too?

    Pretty proud of this one...

Lovely, keep it stored out of the light and the color will last longer.

    Lotion Too Thick

I'd cut back on the stearic by 1% I'd also try a different butter or no butter at all. I was in a single oil lotion swap and the butter-based ones were incredibly waxy. Cocoa butter was the worst.

    Looking for earthy lavender FO

I would try lavandin EO. It's more herbal than floral. It's pretty cheap, less so than Lavender 40/42 - try Camden Grey.

    Honest opinions?

I think they look fine but I've never been obsessed with white soap. Ask your friend what look she is after. If for her holiday means blindingly white, then redo with a non-discoloring fragrance. By the way the stabilizer that is supposed to keep vanilla from discoloring only delays the...

Get off my a$$ about lard!

I don't eat pigs or cows so I don't soap with their fats. But that's just my personal preference. I don't judge others by what they eat or the ingredients of their soap.

    Insurance

For selling, absolutely. For gifting, optional. If you give to family and friends only and are confident in your product you probably don't need it. However, a minimal policy from RLI is only about $150 per year which might be worth the peace of mind.

    Mikes fragrances and more

Does he advertise his fragrances as tested in soap and skin safe? It may be that they do better in other applications. I'm sorry that your money was wasted. I would communicate with the vendor and see if an exchange might be possible.

    Soapcalc Server Move

Good to know - I was about to make soap this week! Thanks for the head's up.

    buttermilk saga, pt 2

I find that faint odor with goat's milk as well (but I don't use the stuff that's fresh from the goat). It does dissipate with time.

    Good Percentage for Water?

Same here! Water can be measured as a % of oil weight or as a relationship to lye amount. A 33% lye solution is roughly 1 part lye to 2 parts oil.

    Beautiful Beer Soap

The packaging is cute but I don't see anything out of the ordinary, soap-wise. Except maybe the price!

Oh dear, why did you tell me that!?

Browsing Brambleberry Heaven - In Person!

Lucky you! It would be great to sniff before you buy! I tend to go for single note scents and I love their orange peel (Cybilla) and their grapefruit - very fresh and natural smelling and it sticks! My daughter is a huge fan of their chocolate espresso. The pumpkin stout is also very nice -...

    Coffee Soap....Less talk, more action

Is there any reason why you can't go with straight coffee FO plus some VERY finely ground coffee as exfoliant?
