Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

I don't think I've requested that anybody share a "secret" that's patentable or required years of research to steal for my own selfish purpose. And I'm pretty sure nobody has either. To date, I have spent no less than 320 hours per month combing through forum threads, YouTube videos, published...

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

I've worked in the advertising business for more than 20 years -- so I'm quite familiar with the laws. But more than that: I'm seeking to formulate my soaps to solve specific issues that can be scientifically tested and assessed (hence the reason I'm soaping at all!) so don't worry about me...

yes -- I plan on becoming a lifetime supporter here once I turn a profit.

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

The thing is: there's no current soap on the market made for this problem. Hence, my reluctance to discuss exactly what I'm trying to accomplish with my formula. (I don't know if it's impossible to solve or if it's just something that's so niche - it isn't worth the investment by large...

Pros and cons with using different types of milk

Anyone ever try or have any success using Kefir milk? Or yogurt? (if so, what kind of yogurt do you think works best?) Thanks

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

Yep -- thans for your thoughts. That's why I'm looking into Superfatting as well as what oils for the base formula. Am familiar with LAVA -- they put Petrolatum in it. I'm trying to keep my bars "all natural" as in no petroleum products. I don't really think I need an exfoilant (pumice...

    Thick too fast

sorry about your tough experience. you've got what's know as "soap on a stick" or soap that seized I've had several batched of mine do that, so you're in good company. there are so many variables that can cause this. all that you've posted seems in-line with what you should do: recipe seems...

Can anyone Help me figure out how to create Stirling soap, soap bars

Typically, the ingredient rule is that they're listed in order from most to least. So if the list of ingredients are: Beef Tallow, RSPO (Sustainable) Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Distilled Water, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance Oil, Sodium Lactate Then, that should mean that the...

Can anyone Help me figure out how to create Stirling soap, soap bars

Not sure I agree with this recipe. We can alway fudge the water discount to get it to fall inbetween the Coconut and Olive oils -- but the lye (NaOH) will be pretty constant. So, to get castor oil above the lye weight means more castor, IMHO. so I got: Tallow 24, Palm 23, Coconut 22, Olive 16...

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

Thanks all for your replies! Especially @DeeAnna - your wisdom has been invaluable. Just so you don't think I'm one of those crackpots -- I seriously have found soaps that have magneisum and sulfur in them... as well as soaps with epsom salt! So it can be done... now whether or not it will...

What are your top 3 favorite soft oils and why?

I honestly dunno. but when we're superfatting... aren't we left with a soap that has extra oils? I've heard Kevin Dunn say that some oils saponify faster than others... so I guess that would matter too.

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

In specific - I'm looking at adding one or more of these at trace (prolly not all for the same bar of soap) magnisium hydroxide aluminum hydroxide beta cyclodextrin sulfur (or sulphur) (I'm hoping @DeeAnna our resident chemist my chime in!) I'm on a mission to extract certain stubborn oils...

What are your top 3 favorite soft oils and why?

I grabbed this off some soaping website. I assumed it's saying that some oils absorb in the skin faster than others....

    Citirc acid calculator

okay -- so I'm going to take a stab at this (but I'll probably be wrong) the amount of citric acid you can add = 1-3% of CA ppo so you've got 250 grams = 2.5 - 7.5 gr of CA (some places recommend no more than 2%...) looks like you're using 1.5% CA ppo then, were told: 10g citric acid...

    Rancid smell

It's tough to tell from your formula. It could be a lot of things, including the oils you used may have been old. A blog mentions this: Rancidity is due to the oxidation of fatty acids in our soap. There are many things that accelerate oxidation, including heat, light, and water, but contact...

    About essential oil

for scents that fade fast, you should look into "anchoring" them in your soap. I've used dried lemon peel and cornstarch with good success. Also check out this video on creating scents. (she talks funny... she might be from New York City!) Basically, you place a drop or two of the scents you...

    Coconut Milk Soap Issue

agree with Owl -- I know the brand we get here has some type of gum in it. And I've heard it can effect how the lye-water behaves. I also know that even from the can - the fat separates and settles from the liquid I'd only use fresh if I was using it instead of water -- otherwise, I'd add it to...

Pros and cons with using different types of milk

Goat's milk, cow's milk, breast milk, yogurt, coconut milk, condensed milk, buttermilk.... you name it, i've read something about it... I've been researching the pros and cons on the different types of milk. But I have yet to find a good resource that talks about the chemistry of this: i.e...

    Bug Repellent Spray

yeah @DeeAnna - agree that nothing backs up the notion that you can shower with Neem and it will work. that's why I'm still curious. but as a spray... that's a different animal. As discussed earlier -- soap is a wash-off product, so its effectiveness will be diluted. I'm not making any claims...
