Post you ugly soap pics here - Troubleshooting thread

Failed mica line. My first time, so I'll probably have more to post as I go along. Although I was happy it stuck together, it still wasn't straight. One step accomplished, anyway. Positiveness! Everything else I was pretty happy with. I should probably figure out a better way to embed the...

Won't be sending out Camel Samples!

I rode one once, not_ally! Tall things, they are! Have a picture of my daughter and I on the thing. I can definitely see camel's milk soap as a novelty. I am one of those people that freeze and ice bath and lye stir 1/2 a tsp lye into their milks at a time already. I would probably take...

My First Batch: 80% Lard Cold Process Soap

Keep one of them, too, all tucked away, somewhere safe. I still have two squares of my very first CP soap. I keep two bars of every batch at least, too, one to use for me or the fella and one to keep to see how long it's shelf life is. I tag it with it's soap notes location in my Onenote...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

I am teaching myself mica lines now. So of course, I screwed that up. Pictures later.

    Using glycerin for color mixing?

Yeap not_ally those are the ones! Love them. I don't pre mix my colors either, I use a lot too, still in the playing phase and making whatever whim hits me, and my soaping time is wonky. I have been wondering how long they keep 'liquidy' after being pre-mixed though.

    Soaping equipment

If you have a Dollar Tree in your area, I scored PET5 plastic pitchers there for 1$ each. I use one to mix lye in. Betty Crocker silicone spatulas, 3 for $1 (i bought like 5, because it is nice to have a spatula just for lye, one for oils and soap mix, one for each color, blah blah) and...

    Using glycerin for color mixing?

I bought tiny ramekin (sp?) sized containers 5 for $1 at the Dollar Tree and was mixing colors in those with the BB minimixer with just 1 tbsp either glycerin, sweet almond, or pulling a tbsp from my oil pot before adding lye. All worked well. The only thing I have changed recently is that...

    I made soap, you guys!

So I can't share that my very first soap I ran around giggling and yelling 'I made soaaaaap!'? Oh wait.... Congratulations! Yes, admit it, you are hooked! It's always an amazing thing when the men take a sort of interest, too. It' s sweet. (Mine loves Newbie's soap pics thread)

    Lard

I use Manteca and have excellent results with it, also. I get it at Walmart. Loooooove lardy soap....

Time to make da Halloween soaps!

YAY for for Halloween soap! My favorite holiday!! I want this one too, I am a heavy-handed scent adder like not_ally, although I usually just read the FO/EO when I buy it and add its max percentage. Most are 5, some are 3. I have never been brave enough to do a 6 though. Learned something!

Lavender guru's needed - so many EO's to choose from - what is what here?

I am not a guru by any means. I got my last lavender EO from BB and it smelled just like Colgate shaving cream, both out of bottle and finished soap. If that's a good lavender, then OK, but personally nothing else lavender I have ever bought smells like Colgate SC and I would like to find...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Sunday I was going to do the wire challenge. I had the bright idea to soap at the boyfriend's house. (Never again.) After two trips to my house (because of course I'm going to forget something major--like my scale and my soaping pots and my container I mix my lye in) and the...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

This story isn't from today either, but it was a pretty phenomenal fail. I'd decided to work with 3 colors, a behaving FO, a slow-moving recipe, and play! So that's what I did! And it came out beautifully! So beautifully, that I was so amazed, and impressed, and in awe. I was like, wow, I dinked...

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Tools are definitely your friends when it comes to bending wire, and it takes practice. Lots. Probably not going to have time to enter in after all, which makes me really sad, but I may throw a pic up somewhere later, like 3 months from now. You guys are doing so awesome! I did get about...

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Oh- right- soap. I was still in all wire mode. Hmmm. It would have to be coated, then, or something.

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Also, just going to quickly suggest, 16 or 18 gage craft wire from Michael's /Hobby Lobby etc. Not silver plated. Get dead soft or craft wire. Shouldnt be more than a few dollars and should be aluminum. Sometimes I pick up that really inexpensive stuff when I am trying a new idea so I...

SMF Soap Challenge August - Inverted Stamping

Ergggggh It's been so freaking busy here the last few weeks. Is it too late to sign up? Wire is my specialty, so I was twitching at this one! I can get soap made before the 25th probably, but not in the next couple days. Twitch. Twitch.

Surgical Spirit to combat soda ash

Also until then, I cover mine immediately with a clear film wrap, although I suppose covering it with anything to keep it away from air will also help somewhat reduce the formation of the soda ash, so that there will at least be not quite as much. When I have to wash it off pattern-topped...
