Definitely don't wash off with water! The glycerin in the soap attracts moisture from the atmosphere which causes the 'sweating'. I use low glycerin soap for some projects...
Essential oils dissolve naturally into alcohol so you may find that they dissolve into the witch hazel without adding anything because it has some alcohol in it.
I love jojoba beads for safe exfoliation on delicate areas like the face. They come in different sizes and I find the smallest ones are the scrubbiest. They don't damage the skin like other sharper exfoliants can (ground walnut shells for instance).
Polysorbate 20 is most often used to dissolve essential oils into water but PS 80 should work too.
Emulthix does not sound like the correct choice - with essential oils you are dissolving rather than emulsifying like you would with a fixed oil.
Have you tried the PS 80?
I would ask Jen...
I think they are new because I don't remember seeing them before (and I order all my labels from here). Just started testing them so good to hear your feedback :)
I've only purchased a few small things from them - most recently a soap stamp and a 2 oz fragrance oil - but I am very aware of how awful their customer service can be, and anyone who has a "synthetic Tuberose essential oil blend" (listed as Tuberose Essential Oil - at $20/lb!) has lost all...
Ha, I was just thinking about that. Looking at lotion bar recipes I quickly realized that people who don't do this for a living mix up all sorts of units, including teaspoons and tablespoons! Gaah.
I see recipes listed at 2% for FOs and approximately 1% for EOs. I realize it depends on the FO or EO in question but just wondering what folks here use?
I use 1.3 - 1.5% FO for the thick lotion that I make but I realize solid lotion bars may need a bit more than that. ?
I love this idea and have often wondered if it could work. I think a demo would be great and something hands-on even better! Lots of food for thought....
I love visits! Actually I'm looking for a cat-sitter from August 4-18 if anyone is interested!
I am from the UK but funny thing is I only remember the lovely cool sunny days....
Ah, I didn't know that Dee Anna. I use BTMS emulsifier and haven't noticed any separation of old lotions but that is definitely something I will be looking into...
Goodness, I have never heard of heating everything together. And re heat and hold: surely the potential microbes would be in the water, not the oil, so doesn't it make more sense to simply boil the water first?
