Freshly Cut Pine Tar Soap (first time using my diy mold)

Thanks! I’m surprised at how well this recipe came out, thus far. Unfortunately I didn’t use my cutter yet. I need to swap out the wood with a stronger one, as the tuning pegs have caused the frame to bend. I suspected it would happen but was already past the point of no return in building it...

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

I have a video of the unmolding but SMF won’t let me post videos. I’m still new to SMF and figuring out all its quirks... anyways, here’s the before and after pics =)

Freshly Cut Pine Tar Soap (first time using my diy mold)

Used a maple sugar FO with this pine tar recipe and it had a surprisingly great outcome. The bars smell just like old school butterscotch!

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

Funny you should ask.... [emoji57] I made a batch of Pine Tar soap last night. The mold perfectly fits a 5lb recipe. I’ll take pics tonight before and after I cut my bars =)

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

Nope, I let the poly tube hang just like Uncle Jon on youtube does. It works perfectly.

    Buying lye

Where in AK are you? Off topic but I work in Petersburg most summers for the salmon season. Prices are just outrageous out there! And I’m from Hawaii where I THOUGHT prices were outrageous l! lol

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

I like the 1” for my round bars. I’m probably going to make another cutter for either thicker bars or a totally customizable one. My patience wears thin if I have to cut each one individually. Especially now that I’m making larger loaves.

Looks like a beauty to me! I’m all for DIYers work over commercialized stuff.

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

I posted the finished product in a new post, but here it is for anyone following. I haven’t attached a platform in the center area yet but that’s gonna be easy to finish. From what I’ve seen, molds and cutters are not cheap no matter where you get them from. That’s why I chose to make my own..

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

Yeah I’ve heard different outcomes with HDPE. It almost sounds like in your case, if salt soap had no issues, it just needed to sit longer before unmolding? I work with HDPE on other things than soap as well and have never had issues that weren’t user error. This will be my first for soap and...

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

I just used the guitar string stopper as it’s own stopper. I’m going to redo it with stronger wood, at that time I’ll also add washers. Some guitar stoppers broke and I used a washer as a stopper too. Next build will be better! lol I used guitar strings, first E String. Made the mistake of...

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

There is a local supplier but I’m never able to catch them when they’re open, so I purchased mine on amazon. I purchased two sheets, one at 1/2” and one at 1/4”, and both at 12” x 24”. All cuts, grooves included, I did with a table saw. As for lining HDPE, no. HDPE is a super non stick surface...

Finally finished my DIY HDPE soap mold and a 20+ bar wire cutter!

My goal was to complete both of these as well as a batch or two of soap this weekend but due to numerous setbacks I was only able to complete the HDPE mold and mostly finish the cutter (still needs a raised soap platform with cuts for the wires). All said and done, I’m pleased with the outcome...

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

I burned some midnight oil and was able to make some progress. There’s a slight chance I’ll finish this project today. I hope... will follow up with pics! =)

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

I’ll definitely post the finished product. Since I started using poly tubing molds, I’m cutting roughly 20-23 bars each batch. I use a pastry knife and it doesn’t cut as straight as I’d like. Watching videos of wire cutting soap is so oddly satisfying that I decided to build it. =)

DIY Soap Cutter and Murphy’s Law...

Ugggghhhh! What should be a quick build (for me) just turned into a few day long project! Making a 20-22 bar wire cutter but thanks to unreliable parts I had to spend most the day just trying to use my Hawaiian ingenuity to make this work. 4 of the guitar tuning pegs came faulty and were...
