    What did YOU do today?

@Mobjack Bay That's great looking bread! I made these recently, not sourdough although I do make sourdough regularly as well. Sourdough waffles...yum!

How to use Goat Milk in CP recipe

I have limited experience but I do use goats milk with most of the soap I'm now making. I added GM (and honey) to my 3rd batch and I can't believe how much of a difference it made! I use powdered GM and subtract a small amount of water from my water/lye and mix the powder. I get a thick GM...

Help with goat milk, honey, oat recipe

I did this the first time I made a soap using powdered goats milk. The resulting soap had some white dots/blobs in it. I stick blended the powder really well into the oils (maybe not enough, idk). I figured the white dots in the soap were from the lye water reacting with the oil from the...

Help with goat milk, honey, oat recipe

I have been using powdered goats milk. I add a small amount of water to the powder to make a goats milk sludge, subtracting the water I use from the amount of water I use with lye. I mix well and then add the goats milk sludge after I add the lye water to my oils and they have emulsified. I...

    Milk Carton Box Mold

My first soaps were in washed out almond milk cartons. I considered doing what you did but was lazy and just cut the top off (I actually cut it in half and used ~12 ounces of oils - small batches).

Favorite Base Oil / Oil Blends

There are several websites that have recipes and ideas (not that you need more, lol). Modern Soaping and The Spruce Crafts come to mind. I think a hobbyist's choices of oils to use is personal and based on personal preference and trial and error. I haven't been soaping too long but I've got...

New to soap making. Looking for advise!

Hi and welcome. I also used the $8 soap you are referring to, though a bar lasted me over a month. I cut them into 4 smaller blocks and kept them away from water always. I also lathered with a wooden scrub brush. The amount of pine tar in that brand has to be minuscule. I have nothing...

    Patience!

Once I make my lye water I go do something else for an hour or so and forget about it. I found that waiting for the lye water to cool was like watching a pot of water come to boil...not worth it.

    December 2019 Un-Challenge - New to You

I wanted to try a Christmas tree soap using the reverse feather swirl technique (I think that's the name). There were many things that were new to me on this one: using my new mold from Nurture Soap, this particular swirl, using palm oil and trying to make a tree on the top of each bar of soap...

    First Soap in 2# Mold

@dibbles , thanks for the suggestion on the Nurture Soap mold. I picked one up, the price was very reasonable - and free shipping! I unmolded my first batch with it tonight and it was great.

    High Coconut Oil, High SF

I've made a 100% coconut oil soap with a 20% SF and I love the quick lather. I assume that I could make something like an 80% coconut oil soap using another more conditioning oil, keeping the SF near 20%. I was thinking about an 80/20 coconut oil and cocoa butter soap using goats milk and 20%...

    First batch questions.

It's definitely fine to use. I've used mostly oils from Walmart and everything has been good. I've ordered shea and cocoa butter from Amazon and palm from Brambleberry but that's it.

    @Jamielynn That's such a great looking soap!

    First batch questions.

Here's a really nice web page (from a website I'd suggest reading thoroughly) that explains lye concentration, particularly as it relates to the soapcal default. The web page will contain the answer to your specific question and a lot more. https://classicbells.com/soap/waterInSoap.asp

    December 2019 Un-Challenge - New to You

I put the soap into squeeze bottles and layered the soap that way. There is a YT video titled DIY Circles, I copied that method.

    First batch questions.

Hi and welcome. As a fellow newbie to soap making here are some websites that have really helped me out. I read everything I could and watched hours of YT videos before I jumped in. Soaping101 website - several recipes. The soaping101 YT channel is also very good. Soap Queen website and...

    December 2019 Un-Challenge - New to You

I decided to do a circle soap and use CPOP method. This is scented with peppermint FO and peppermint EO.

The common question. Is my bar cured?

This is a great website that someone else posted here (I don't recall and cannot find the post). This page specifically addresses this topic, basically the same information but a little more geeked out. https://classicbells.com/soap/cure.asp

    Ideas for meaningful gift

Bullying sucks. It sounds like your daughter is quite young - and being targeted by boys...that's just terrible. Not knowing any specifics, I'd suggest you look into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for your daughter unless she has physical limitations. Generally martial arts will instill confidence in...
