    Lets talk about LARD

Love lard. I will not cater to the no animal fats crowd, so I don't care about sales to them, they can buy from someone else. I get my lard from my neighbor across the lane up in Maine, those hogs are raised well, happy piggy lives, I get the lard from him, render it myself and make wonderful...

    Ebru Technique Soap Challenge

Newbie, that was awesome, nice job!! I voted last night. I did read the ones that attracted me, not all of them got a vote, though. I always look to see which ones of my selections win - I'm not always in the top five, even. I guess I am not in the mainstream of what others like :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

Very nice - where did you get the liners, did you make them also?

    Color/Mixing/Pouring Containers?

The Bramble Berry ones are the Norpro ones. Cheaper by far on Amazon when you factor in the shipping and frankly the shipping was quick from Amazon compared to BB. I had those, I'm not a fan, the narrow spout can get plugged quickly if the batter thickens at all. I love the Ikea measuring...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I didn't quite make enough to fill two of my tube molds, and this picture is mainly a play on sunlight and shadows, but I got 25 bars out of the 'double' batch I made. Gotta up it to a full 80 ounces I guess. I call this GMOH, stands for goat's milk, oatmeal & honey.

Scones!........And clotted cream (see post 13)!

I've had real clotted cream when I was in southwestern England years ago - and it is truly to die for. I've got to try these recipes (both the scones & the clotted cream)!

A graphic reminder of the dangers of lye

I actually do that, DeeAnna, but this picture was just for show, and I wanted to show off the pink tie. So many of these aprons were made black with black ties.

A graphic reminder of the dangers of lye

A woman on Facebook made chemical resistant aprons that are cute, I bought a white one with pink trim. Love it, it's nice and long. I know she's going to branch out into custom logo work and sell more of these, I don't know if any are available yet.

Why the opposition to squirt bottles, may I ask?

    Ebru Technique Soap Challenge

I would love to try your recipe, I use lard all the time. I think I'm going to try this challenge this time.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I tried to almost double my batch of goat's milk, oatmeal & honey in the tube molds. I missed by a few ounces, but it's all good, I'll make it again. 78 ounces of base oils instead of 73 should do it.

Curious - Why the general negative impressions for ED?

They have done serious damage to their reputation, however, when you've got soapers like Cathy McInnis (of S101 fame) on their side, they have instant loyalty. She makes money from shilling for them. I lost all respect for her when I saw that. The other one was Kimberly McNutt, who I had no...

    MY Lardy!

Soaper's Choice has tallow for something like 40¢ a pound. I render suet, with no water involved - water just makes it softer, a dry render over low heat in a good cast iron enameled pot works a treat. To the op, don't apologize to the vegan crowd, they just won't be buying your soap. Some...

Bar Mold Vs Loaf Tell me your Pros and Cons. Help me Decide on A Bar Mold

I like the way you think! :) I do like to be able to cut bars horizontally for various effects like spin swirls.

Bar Mold Vs Loaf Tell me your Pros and Cons. Help me Decide on A Bar Mold

Hmm, didn't think of it that way. Good point. Duh on me :) Regarding the tall skinny - yes, it's making the bar on the side, so to speak, but people just love them, the skinniness of them makes them easy to smaller hands to hold, I've heard people say.

Bar Mold Vs Loaf Tell me your Pros and Cons. Help me Decide on A Bar Mold

Or it could have four sections of 'tall skinny'. My problem with the design is when it's in slab mold, those 'inserts' might make a leaky mess and never be able to be removed. In slab mold it would have to be lined - and at that point, in slab mold, go for a silicone liner perhaps??

    whipping Beeswax

Yes, I'd keep it warm while trying to whip it. Remember it has a melting point of about 140°, it starts to solidify fast below that.

Birch Tar CP soap . Any do's and don'ts?

What would the benefits be? FWIW I have heard that birch tar speeds up trace worse than pine tar, which, oddly enough, I didn't find to be as much of a racehorse as reputed.
