    Embeds in hot process?

Also, if you were using non-gelled embeds in the middle of the hot process loaf, do you think it would gel them from the heat?

    Embeds in hot process?

Is it possible to do embeds in hot process and have them stick properly? Maybe some solvent would help? Tried to do some searching around and haven't come up with much.

    Hot process vs cold process

I'm still a budding newbie but I'd say if you have the same recipe, you're going to get the same soap regardless of process. Being that I'm a HP'er, I'm a little biased. I'd also say that you have a little more freedom with ingredients with hp since you don't care about acceleration (like...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Actually, this is hot processed. It was just still too hot in the middle. Usually I stick the mold in the fridge for 2.5 hours then cut. I needed to leave and thought I could get by cutting a little after 2 hours in the fridge. I was wrong. I like to cut it pretty fresh so it doesn't stress my...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made another batch today. It was the Aveda style rosemary mint fragrance. I was in a rush and cut it earlier than I normally do. Figured it would be fine. Used a wire loaf cutter and quickly realized there was about a 1" circle that was still liquid in the middle. My first screw-up. Still...

    I have a confession .....

I must say, I also hate using unbeveled soaps. Was starting to think I was the only one. They drive me nuts. :D Before I was making my own soap... The lady I bought my soap from did not bevel. I dreaded starting a new bar, haha. Hindsight being what it is... I could have beveled it myself but...

    I have a confession .....

I think I'm addicted to making soap. I've made two batches yesterday. One batch today and already planning a batch for tomorrow and the next day. I now have a lot of soap... And no clue what to do with it!!

    Color questions

I've only been soaping a few months. As far as the colorants go... I'd say go with micas. Like was stated earlier, oxides bleed and create colored lather. They have also been much more difficult for me to disperse well (though I do HP so it's a little different). Ive used micas from nurture and...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks Dawni! It doesn't look too bad.. just not quite what I was going for. EDIT: I started thinking maybe it was something to do with the wire cutter. I cut it with a knife and it did reveal some bubbles. It looks like the wire cutter dragged soap into the bubbles as it went through leaving...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Another batch today. Guess I didn't add enough black. I was going for black but ended up gray. Fragrance is a Lord of Misrule lush dupe. Also not real sure what all the little whitish spots are. Maybe bubbles? Hot processed.

Coffee Butter from Brambleberry and SoapCalc.net

I can't give you their exact makeup but Brambleberry gives you the SAP value for it. That is all that matters when calculating amount of lye. SAP (bar) Value: 0.13 KOH (liquid) Value: 0.19 Ive not used soapcalc but I don't think you can add new custom oils with it. Other calculators allow you...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made a batch this morning. This fragrance oil (nightfall from nurture) has vanilla in it. Curious to see how the color changes... Hot processed

    Steep water discount? Why not?

I don't have the experience to answer your question on the water discounting. I'm pretty new and a HP'er so Im used to using extra water to make my soap easier to work with. However, I can tell you that it's definitely not just water evaporation. I did some experiments where I freeze-dried some...

    Trying to make a lotion..

This lotion is in a shampoo style bottle. It's pretty fluid. Thanks everyone for all the links. I'm going through everything. That recipe template you posted looks pretty similar to what I've seen elsewhere. Looks to be a good starting point!

    Trying to make a lotion..

This lotion is from Tropical Traditions. I believe it's where some family members were purchasing their coconut oil (for food). Upon questioning them again about the lotion, they indicated that it wasn't critical that it be a dupe but could be pretty much any lotion as long as it doesn't contain...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Opened a soapy box today. Been waiting on it to make more soap. Definitely making some this weekend.

    Trying to make a lotion..

Somehow after making soap, I've now become the family bath and body product producer. Ive been asked to try to make this lotion. I dont know a thing about making lotion. Does someone know the percentages that one might use when making a recipe with the ingredients pictured? Otherwise, is there...

Hot process shaving soap - does this look reasonable?

Thanks for posting the update. I would likely have never seen this otherwise. I'm a pretty new soaper myself and recently made the original songwind? shave soap. It's been great but I've also been curious about adjustments and have been thinking up a couple experiments. I may give this a shot.
