Does anybody here promote CP soap as shampoo?

I'm a guy who has a very short haircut. I didn't initially intend to use my bar soap for my hair but I started when I ran out of shampoo. When I tried shampoo again, it made my head really itchy. I've been using bar soap now for over 6 months on my head. I will continue until I notice some ill...

    New evening classes for men.

    I don't get it... :D

    Third Batch HP

I actually use sugar (sorbitol in my case) and salt (sodium lactate - 60%) at around 4-5% of my total oils each. So, I use considerably more than 1 tsp ppo (of sugar at least... haven't run the numbers on the sodium lactate). You might want to experiment with it and decide yourself. People doing...

    Third Batch HP

I imagine it will be fine. Some oil separation during the different stages is normal and I just stir it back in. I also cook my soap at high temps (~200F) with a lot of stirring. Usually, my cook takes 10-15 minutes depending on how much stirring I feel like doing :) More stirring and more heat...

    Cat Soap

Definitely turning brown. I’m not the best with colors. Also seems I didn’t mix the fragrance well. Ugh Going to have to try again with some different colors I think

    Alternative sweeteners for bubbles?

I’ve switched completely to sorbitol. Seems to perform the best to me. I use quite a lot but since I hp, overheating is not a concern. :)

    Cat Soap

Thanks all! As for the recipe I used, it was acquired in one of Bee's ebooks (from Sorcery Soaps). She does offer a free recipe on her website. Technically, you can make soap dough from any CP soap but texturally it can vary a lot. What I often do with soap dough is extrude it in a clay...

    Cat Soap

It is an embed. It goes all the way through the soap. The embed was made by cutting out a bunch of pieces out of soap dough with a cookie cutter and stacking (sticking) them together until it is the length of the soap mold.

    Cat Soap

For sure, it really only takes a little water to get it to stick together if it’s soap dough. I just keep a fine mist sprayer next to me while working with it. So if you get it done in one sitting, it’s best. Once it hardens up on the outside a bit, it gets harder for it to stick together.

    Cat Soap

Sure. I made it out of soap dough. Rolled it out with a rolling pin and used a cat cookie cutter to cut out a bunch. Then stuck them on top of each other. It’s a little labor intensive but I think it’s worth the effort. Edit: I should mention, I first saw this technique on Bee’s (from sorcery...

    Cat Soap

No, not soap to wash your cat. This has a cat in the soap :) Literally cut this about 1 minute ago so the darker color in the middle is because it’s still quite warm. This is hot process with a cat embed I made. This fragrance oil is supposed to go medium brown. Curious to see how it ends up.

Is isopropyl alcohol useful in hot process?

Not a lot of uses for Isopropyl. But, you can use other (fatty) alcohols like cetyl alcohol added after the cook to add some stability to your lather.

    Bay Rum Craziness

I hear you. I bought some Pimenta Racemosa EO as well just to know what I should be expecting. I was quite surprised by the smell. It certainly does have some of those "holiday spices" in there. I will just say that NG is not the same and definitely more Christmas-y to my nose. Not saying that...

    Bay Rum Craziness

Mine is brand new. It smells like Christmas spice to me. I've not used it in soap yet so just OOB impressions. I did see this thread about it when I started doing some searching. Though it's a 5 year old thread. https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/natures-garden-bay-rum.50593/ Edit: I...

    Bay Rum Craziness

I can’t comment too much on discoloring yet. Many of them do. Some claim they don’t. I’m not too crazy about BB one either. The one that I got was all spices and no rum or anything to mellow it out. I did order the one from MMS and the West Indies bay from Oregon trail to see how those are as...

    Bay Rum Craziness

Well, my cold has gotten worse. Finally decided to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. I will say that Nature's Garden is my least favorite out of the bunch. I'm not sure why they call that one Bay Rum tbh. It smells like potpourri that people would put out at Christmas time. It's pretty...

    Freezer Paper made of Gold?

Mine is $4.50 for 75 square feet. Every one that I've seen has been reynolds brand. It is a roll in a box.

    Bay Rum Craziness

Oof. Wish I had picked up that West Indies Bay fragrance when I was ordering. Didn't see it the first time around. Yeah some of it is hard to make out. Left to right back row is; Symphony Scents, Brambleberry, Soapalooza, Lebermuth, Nature's Garden, Oregon Trails, WSP, Sweetcakes Then the...

    Bay Rum Craziness

So one of my favorite scents of soap before I started making was bay rum. The first bay rum fragrance I had purchased though, I didn’t like much and it turned me off for a while. Then I bought another small bottle of bay rum from a different supplier and I really liked it. The first one I bought...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've still been cranking out a good bit of soap. One thing I've started using pretty regularly is soap dough. When I first got interested in it, I wanted to do 2 main things. 1) Utilize soap dough to extrude embeds for my HP soap. This has been pretty successful thus far and I'm happy how it has...
