    Flying, TSA, and Soap

Interesting. I live in Europa and fly couple of times a year and I always specifically carry a bar of soap and a synth shampoo bar in my hand luggage because I want to reduce the amount of liquids I have. They have never been a problem here (I only fly inside Europe).

    1st time lotion recipie help

It's not actually through Patreon anymore. She had problems with Patreon system and got fed up with their "help" fixing them. So now you create count directly at the blog and pay to her. It's actually little bit cheaper as she doesn't charge VAT separately like Patreon does. =P

    1st time lotion recipie help

Swift's blog is now behind paywall. The old blog is gone, the new one is here: https://swiftcraftymonkey.blog . You can access all the post, new and old by paying 1 dollar a month so it's still really cheap.

    Olivem 1000

Yeah, Susan doesn't really like it as it has failed her so often. And many others have complained about it but I started with it when first started making lotions and stuff. And I have very very rarely had a emulsion failure. I'm not sure what I'm doing differently but for me it has always been...

    Olivem 1000

I haven't tried it without oils but I have a face cream recipe that has always worked and emulsified without problems. It's gotten pretty complicated but originally it was mostly water, oils and Olivem 1000 with cetyl alcohol. =D Original recipe is from a book Natural beauty by Karen Gilbert...

    de-funk de pits

I found this thread really interesting. The only natural deo that has really worked for me had Mg(OH)2 in it and I had plans to make my own at some point but couldn't find the darn thing anywhere. Your links didn't help either but they helped me found another supplier that does actually deliver...

    Shampoo bar base?

I really like SCM's recipes. Here's the basic one with just what goes in it but nothing specific. Just search shampoo bar if you want something with actual ingredients names. If you just want to try it you can leave out conditioning agent, proteins, silicones and panthenol. Then it will be pure...

    Less oily body butter please!

I made new attempt on body butter and this has pretty good skin feel and absorbs very quickly. It's also very very soft so it might liquefy in higher temps. =D 44% Babassu oil 22% Cocoa butter 22% Evening primrose oil 11% Sweet almond oil I melted everything and then cooled it down in freezer...

    Anybody ever try epsom salt?

All you really need is the heated phase and some preservative that can stand salts. Most of the stuff in the cool down phase is just fancy additions and not strictly necessary. In the long term they are good for your hair, but you can try it out with just the salt and sugar with preservative. =)

    Anybody ever try epsom salt?

Here's my styling spray. Very easy recipe and works pretty well. Also, no problems with insects taking a liking for the sugar, even if my brother was concerned about it last summer. =P Heated phase 295 ml water 2 tbs Epsom salt 2 tbs sugar 1,5 tsp Dead Sea salt Cool down phase 2 ml aloe vera...

    Lotion bars, that simple?

It wasn't scratchy at all. It's good enough body salve and melts nicely when you put it on the skin. Just very very oily, even worse than my unhydrous body butters. =P

    Lotion bars, that simple?

My try with lotion bar ended up little too soft but I do remember reading some where that you could put it into stick deodorant container. I have actually bought those for this but never did a second batch... I'll keep an eye on this thread and see what happens. This was my recipe and like I...

    Anybody ever try epsom salt?

I use it as a part of my styling spray with dead sea salt and sugar. It keeps my curls in place as I don't want to use mousse or other commercial product. I can write the recipe here if anybody is interested.

    Deep Cleansing Oil

This sounds interesting. I tried the oil cleansing method for a while and it was nice but took way too much time for my liking. This sounds like it could work as a faster alternative to that. Thank you! =)

    Carrier oil

It can some times be hard to find certain ingredients from them but something like oils is best to just go with the tabs and menus and not search. But some special ingredients like surfactants and proteins can be a real PITA.

    Carrier oil

I'm buying almost all my cosmetic stuff from The Soap Kitchen, which is UK based company. I've had no quality issues with them and when they've made packaging error in my delivery they've always been quick to correct it. www.thesoapkitchen.co.uk

    Problem with Castile soap

penelopejane, I think the oven was about 63 degrees Celsius when I put it in there so it was within the limits DeeAnne said. If I over heated my soap, then what happened to it? earlene, Never heard of salted out method, but I'll read it through and see what it is. Thank you. =)

    Problem with Castile soap

Okay, I put my soap into a preheated oven yesterday and left it there. After several hours, when the oven had cooled to near 30 degrees Celsius, it was still pretty liquidy on the top but firm enough that I could unmould it and leave it to firm further. This morning I took a look and it had ash...

    Problem with Castile soap

SaltedFig: I'm with DeeAnne when it comes to the amount of EOs. 40 drops is about 2 ml so there is less than 2 grams of EO's in the whole batch. That shouldn't affect the saponification. I'm not in any hurry, not anymore, but I could pop it into a warming oven tomorrow when I'm back at work...
