Mixing Fragrance Oils with lye water has anyone done this?

I use castor oil in every batch of soap. My castor oil portion is put into my fo or eo and is added to my batch at emulsification. When I have a touchy fo I hand stir the fragrance. Raising the temp of the castor oil/fo blend 10-20 seconds in the microwave to the same temp of the batch helps...

    Food colourings?

Liquid blue food coloring works in m and p soap. I don't imagine it would hold in cold processed soap.

    What Fragrance with Cocoa Butter?

For your question I would make a 16 oz batch of soap split it and only fragrance one half. I would use 10X orange for one half and nothing for the second half. Personally the only product I make where the cocoa butter scent comes thru is a solid lotion, and I like it.

Nice job I love the name too! How did you like working with Grapefruit Lily? Did it rice on you? It has riced on me.

    Pouring temps

Don't melt it too hot or it can cause all types of issues. 30 seconds at a time for 8 ounces until melted stir in between. I wouldn't heat it more than 160 degrees at the very most.

    Creepy skin ....

Well keep your head up, chin out, shoulders back and smile lots. It is life and no one escapes the timing. I recently made my first whipped butter, shea cocoa and mango with a touch of jojoba oil. It was my first attempt and it isn't as airy as some, rather dense but it works nicely...

Me vs DOS (and more)...the epic battle

The only time in 10 years I've gotten DOS was when I used 40/42 lavender. There must be a reason for this as I've heard others say the same thing, but I don't know why it is so for me.

    formulation help needed

Here is a suggestion a good place to start; For 500 gram batch of soap; Olive Oil 250 grams, coconut Oil 125 grams, Palm Oil 100 grams and Castor Oil 25 grams, Lye NaOH 69 grams and Water 140 grams. You must have access to a good lye calculator or know the math to do the calculating yourself...

    Spring Soaps

Beautiful work and the melon colored soap is great. You say the proportion was off but I think it makes this so unique. Lovely!

How to get large particle activated charcoal become small particles?

I truly would suggest to dump the lot and purchase a proper Activated Charcoal. You can get some at a health food store that is so fine it blows in the air. That is the type I use for soap. It is inexpensive and it is very very fine. People put it into capsules and eat them for some reason...

Can a mica or oxide affect trace?

I think color can effect trace. Do 4 or 5 colors in cups and usually the blue or green trace quicker than other colors. Also yesterday I made a masculine soap and added Bentonite Clay that was dispersed in some water and it definitely made the batter move quickly.

What size Loaf mold works best

My very favorite molds are the original Tall Skinny molds from American Soap Supplies. I love the feel in my hand of this size soap. Also BB has a blue mold for individual rectangular soaps that is fantastic makes 12 bars here is a test batch photo of salt bars.
