What soapy thing have you done today?

I will remake the recipe with your suggestions. Thanks, Prof!

    exfoliating ingredients

I haven't seen ground-up used chamomile flowers (cha-mo-mi-le ... sorry, couldn't resist) as the gentlest of exfoliators in CP soap. I use 2 tbs to make a qt of tea to make the lye solution (for however much liq I need) and leave the spent mess in the fridge in an open glass container to dry. It...

    First Shave Soap

I feel absolutely gobsmacked at how well this recipe worked. Ok, I haven't shaved with it, and I only have a used toothbrush to sub for a real shaving brush, but I used my hands to make some lather, and just wow. The photos are in sequence (I hope) and taken over the course of 3 HOURS. The last...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've not made soap in a long while until the last batch I made that was regular soap. Like the break in a dam, it gave me the impetus to tackle a shaving soap that's been on my to-do list since last Summer. So after all the ingredients and tools had finally materialized, I made it last night...

Beef Tallow and Coconut Oil Soap Recipe

If you only want to use those 2 solid fats, I'd suggest you use a sweet component to increase the bubbles/suds or the water from rinsing rice or potatoes. Either of these will add "slip" or the feel of smoothness of the soap on the skin. Or that's been my experience with my experiment with lard...

What soapy thing have you done today?

This will be my first shaving soap and I still haven't added my dual lye to the melted oils yet because my son asked me to watch my favorite series installment with him. In the interim the oils overheated and I'm now waiting for them to cool down. The lye is now too cold. 😐 I don't regret it...

What soapy thing have you done today?

The soapy thing today, yesterday, the day before ... Ergamagerd! ... I'm anxiety-ridden over making my first shaving soap! I can't seem to make myself go to my sawhorse table to just start. I've already decided that I'll make a modified @songwind recipe but instead of the 2 ingredients, I'll...

    Coffee soap benefits?

I'll put in my HO here as well. I too make several coffee soaps for my lineman son who works outdoors, often in ditches and with bentonite clay in large quantities. I use strong brewed coffee (whatever we have in the freezer that's not popular), I grind the used and dried grounds a bit finer to...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Gosh, I feel you. I too was making some really lovely soaps and some of my family were actually fighting over who was getting them! And my father just said, "no thanks, I got some from a friend of your sister's that smell really pretty." I was just so disappointed. Those pretty smelling soaps...

    Please Critique My Recipe

The few times I've tried my recipes in the pot (HP) I've used a tablespoon of nonfat Greek yogurt to keep my soap fairly moving (I usually kept my recipes to about a kilo). And added it at the end of the cooking. However, I did not add salt to those recipes, and made sure to keep the sugar...

    Please Critique My Recipe

I'm just going to add a little bit of info here because I also suffer from extremely dry skin. Anything but my own soaps makes the skin on my hands and fingers crack. I spent over a year reading blogs and watching videos online before making my first soap, Soaping101's Bastile recipe back in...

    Frozen in Texas

I'm still waiting for the reprieve healthwise unfortunately, but at least it's not as bad as last summer. Crossing my fingers that my breathing stays stable and doesn't get worse. I need to get some soaps made! 😁 I still have oils and fats measured out that need to become a better version of...

    Frozen in Texas

Got so sick after arriving in WI, I lost track of the soaping threads I'd been following! Thanks for the good vibes, @Sudds, but I was moving in with my younger son who was needing some logistical support with his kids. Just needed the body, thank goodness, because I was a mess for most of the...

    Soap Growing & Cracks

The soaps are stable in size, and are only getting milder. I gave my local clinic some of them to test drive and they've been well accepted. I included printed copies of the soap recipe with them, with notes, so they could see what the soaps were made of. So far, no one has mentioned blossoming...

    Soap Growing & Cracks

Could the tallow be the culprit? Your soap has an uncanny resemblance to mine! Except for the fact that my recipe is not the same as yours in the least. I make mine CP, and use pork lard. Recipe: Lard 50%, OO 30%, CO76F 15%, Castor oil 5%. SF 5%. I used individual molds, but it still took over a...

    Soy Wax Users

I've used an oil from a warehouse type store overseas that was a blend of olive 80% and soy 20%. It was fairly cheap for what it was, made a nice firm soap bar that made very nice creamy lather in a region with soft water. At the time I was using actual ocean water, filtered for debris and such...

    Freezing in Minnesota

Hi, @featherbird! Welcome. I've been away from the forum and the soap making only for about 9 months but I'm missing it so much. Also, freezing in the rural parts of Wisconsin.

    Biggest soap disaster recovery

@Obsidian I don't want to assume, this was a HP soap?

    Rats!

@ResolvableOwl the soap has been put to cure inside the house. My son has become protective of it, seeing as how he loves the way it leaves his skin. As for the wildlife, the corn fields just beyond our property is now beginning to ripen. There's much more delicious fare out than in!
