Feedback on recipe for Sandalwood Soap

What @AliOop said. I do the same. I don't even heat my solid fats until they're clear, just mostly melted, then turn the heat off. Then I add my liquid oils. Not so much in the Winter, but then I don't soap much when the cold weather hits. Neither of my boys lives where I can store my soaps in a...

    Salt quantity in CP soap?

@DomTheDillyHoo the different ways of adding salt depends on what kind of soap you're making. It's not for a beginner soap maker. Please, if you haven't already made at least a few basic recipes, don't attempt to make any kind of salt-containing soaps. I made that mistake early in my journey and...

    Please help

I was going to say that a full replacement of the goat's milk would've been the exact amount of water, measure for measure, not more nor less. Or any other liquid for that matter. The only change to your soap would've been the "characteristics" of it, that would not show up on any soap or lye...

    Please help

When asking a question such as this, where you want either clarification on an ingredient replacement or how to do a certain step in the soaping process, it's really best if you give the soaping community a look at your recipe and tell us how you're processing your soap (cold, hot, dual lye...

Heartfelt condolences to our British and Commonwealth members...

My condolences to those who called her HRH. To me and my maternal grandmother she embodied everything that a woman needed to be and do for others, yet lead by example and grace. My grandmother died when I was 17 but I looked up to Her Majesty as a sort of surrogate because she reminded me that...

Too Much of a Good Thing!

Visit your local thrift stores! No joke. I just found A Dell genuine leather soft briefcase with a cross-over removable strap, capable of carrying 2 laptops in one outside console, and enough room in the center one for at least 2 1" binders if I were so inclined. Not that I would, I couldn't...

Too Much of a Good Thing!

I have always been a planner, really, though mostly in my head because I had an unstable childhood. So I had to quickly, very quickly, decide which things I could do without, permanently. I get to a place, anywhere, and I start making lists. First in my head, then in a notebook, of the stuff...

Too Much of a Good Thing!

I have to confess that because I travel between 3 places, routinely 2 in the US and 1 in Central America, I've been able to sort of disguise my stashes. There's the soaping stash in El Salvador dug up by my roommate. The soaping molds because I was planning on doing a major soap batch. Oh boy...

    Sodium Hydroxide in the news

I just wanted to share this with the forum because it seems just so apropos. BBC News - Breakthrough over potentially harmful chemicals found in most homes https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-62561756

A cappuccino bar with citric acid

@AliOop I went to bed early then got up this am to check amounts of lye, when toggling the button, and yeah, the amount of lye changed. But I had also written in how much liquid, in this case coffee, I'd be using, which was 904g, so if I was going to change any oils/fats that particular amount...

A cappuccino bar with citric acid

@AliOop, back to the engine hitch for us... Sigh. Good thing I'm feeling completely run down. I printed the recipe and didn't even have the strength to check to see if it would calculate the ca adjustment. 😢 Ugh. Thank you for spoon feeding me the info. I'd NEVER have guessed that was what the...

A cappuccino bar with citric acid

Thank you both! I almost forgot about the neutralizing effect of the citric acid, @glendam! Thanks for the reminder. I use the soapmakingfriend.com lye calculator, but I'm not sure if it does the calculation for you or not. I'll check it out. @AliOop, I didn't even think to combine the citric...

A cappuccino bar with citric acid

I'm asking for a critique of this recipe because I've made it at least twice before without issue except this time I want to add citric acid. Not because it leaves soap scum as is but because I'm now making it in part for taking some of the bars to San Antonio where the water is very hard (heavy...

    Soap thickening too fast

Something I do when my HP soap has decided to play hardball is to add a teaspoon of nonfat yogurt to it at first, then stir. It will loosen things up a bit. If the batter is more than say, 600g or so, try another teaspoon, but no more than a tbs or you'll have to wait a long time for your soap...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@earlene if it wasn't that I was leaving behind my younger son and my grands, I'd be overjoyed about going back to San Antonio! I have really come to love the place. It's more about the climate for me than anything because I don't really get out much no matter where I live. And I have grands...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yesterday, in the early morning hours I bought a train tix to San Antonio, TX. I leave Wisconsin on the 2nd of Sept. So now I'm sort of frantically packing for what I'm taking with me, what I'm leaving for picking up later, but most importantly, doing prep for a big soaping extravaganza to use...

    New to the soap world!

Welcome, Nikki! I too live in Wisconsin, and @earlene it's at 98% humidity right now. You can take a bath just by walking outside and oye just about 4a. Thunder and lightning is all over where I'm at, right smack in Juneau, WI. Ugh. I've just bought a bunch of new individual molds to get some...
