Are Melamine containers safe to use for soap making? I keep finding all these articles on how terrible it is if you consume it...but will a lye solution cause leaching? How about for leave on products, like lotions and such?

Me! Me! Me! Lol I am on the fence about patchouli...I don't love it and I don't hate it. It's just a scent to me. I actually feel that way about most scents- there's rarely an FO that stands out to me one way or another. I guess I don't have a refined sniffer. Lol ;)

So, I'm finding it necessary to scale-up my batches for the time being. I'm planning on making a small jump from ~2 lbs to 4 lbs, separate but identical soap molds. Are there any common scaling-up issues I should anticipate? Recipes moving faster (or slower) than before? Gelling or overheating...

I use liquid cocomidopropyl betaine in my bath bombs at less than 1%, and it works ok. It produces a little foam but never really bubbles. You just have to be careful, because it will activate the mixture a bit if you don't mix quickly. A powdered form would probably be better. If you are ok...

You could compare the amount of water recommended to hydrate the milk to the amount of water in your recipe. Usually, I just put in about one tablespoon PPO. I mix it with the oils before adding the lye solution & use my stick blender to mix it to make sure there's no clumps. Hope this helps!

I agree with DeeAnna- it sounds like something else might be going on. For the first batch mentioned- what FO did you use? It might be a discoloring FO- the darker edge and lighter inside sounds like it might be an FO that hasn't darkened all the way yet. The second one sounds like it got...
