Yes, we are talking about sandalwood FOs. Sandalwood EO is far too costly to add to soap. You'd have to use a couple oz (maybe $300?) to get it to stick after curing.

The men in my life all love Sandalwood. My husband also likes BB Cedar & Saffron, but they changed the usage rate to less than 1% in soap. Now I don't know what to do with this scent....

My guess is that there isn't enough poly 80 to fully emulsify the extra shea you're adding. But, it really could be anything....decyl glucoside can be a little finicky. You should probably ask your supplier how many extras you can add.

The popsicle stick would not cause the soda ash. Soda ash is a reaction of unsaponified lye mixing with the carbon dioxide in the air. For me, when I get ash that deep, it usually means I've poured my soap at too thin of trace. Also, have you tried spritzing the top of your soap with rubbing...

Just in case this comes up in a search or something... Red 40 and Blue 1 do not make purple. Something about the orange undertones in Red 40 doesn't mix well with the Blue 1. Apparently, Red 28 & Blue 1 is the way to go for purple.

How long did you have it on the heat? Do you normally replace water after heating to compensate for water loss due to evaporation? Maybe the microwave causes more evaporation than you got on the stove.

I soap with a low-ish superfat-3%. So, I use a little extra oil for my colorant. I've never had problems doing so.
