    Soy Wax Users

I don’t do many colorful swirling, etc., so I keep the temps up to prevent premature setting as I add my EOs. I pour at temps above 120 all the time and have had no problems.

    First batch

I must be missing something here. Is this post about CP?
  3. Richard Perrine

    First batch

Yes. HP. I must not have read the original post. Making transparent involves heating the soap and using solvents for transparency. Did I miss something? My transparent soaps are M&P.[emoji5] My soaps are hard and do not soften or melt away. They also produce little to no sweating unless very...

    Soy Wax Users

I soap at whatever temp the soy melts. I almost entirely do not give track of temperatures as they have been irrelevant in my experience. Of course, I don’t unnecessarily overheat my oils. One thing I have found is waiting for oils to cool too much causes the mixture to trace too quickly when...

My transparent recipe is also M&P. :) The glycerine content is the key.

    Soy Wax Users

I have been using soy wax (hydrogenated soy) and it is great, BUT GMO! For my friends and family who don't care about GMO, I use it, otherwise, no. I will never use animal products in my food as most of my friends and family are vegetarians and vegans for both health and ethical reasons...

    First batch

Just wanted to chime in, if I may. One of the first soaps I made was transparent soap and loved it! It wasn't as difficult as I was led to believe, but wanted to do it w/o alcohol, etc. My transparent soaps only use coconut, castor, sugar and glycerine. Here is my latest batch from a week or two...

CP versus HP - Do any of you do both?

I'm relatively new to soap-making and do both. I am with many others as I prefer CP (easier, smoother pour). I use HP for my transparent soap and every once in a while to mix it up. I just don't have the skills to make the HP (not transparent soap) consistent for me and the final product doesn't...

    Transparent Soap Adventures

It's been some time...busy time of the year! Here is my latest transparent soap I made for a friend. Sandalwood scented and the colour from the oil and castor oil(?). There were tiny air bubbles, but nothing unattractive. I believe this occurred b/c I poured too high causing the tiny bubbles(?)...

    Soap Calc?

Me too. Btw, is there not a soap calc app?
  11. Richard Perrine

Want to, but haven't started yet!

I sew, cook, crochet, make soap!:-) 100% heterosexual. I added that b/c too many people around where I live have a harder time getting beyond traditional male/female roles. [emoji12][emoji5]

Lye Mix and Oils Temperature- Does it really matter?

I agree. I routinely use room temp lye solution in hot oils with no problems.

What are some good beginner recipe's for Glycerin soap?

My understanding is that glycerin alone does not saponify. You will need to add oils to help solidify. It is a by-product if soap making process as been mentioned and really helps with nourishing the skin. I use additional glycerine in my CP soaps w/o any problems. Have fun![emoji5]

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Top Left: Original pour into mould. Very transparent. You can see the squares from the rack through the soap and silicon mold. Top Right: 7-8mm (thick) bar of the soap poured separately and cooled very fast. (I wonder if rapid cooling has anything to do with clarity?) Middle Left: Whole bar and...

Making Hard Soap with Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)

I looked back at my most recent response and need to clarify that the pH difference is after 2-3 days of curing. I also pulled out my rarely used mortar and pestle and finely ground the salt to powder. Better dispersion and dissolution.

Making Hard Soap with Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)

DeeAnna. One thing is for certain, relatively speaking, the KOH bars are showing a lower pH compared to my lye soaps. I am using pH strips and when comparing the colours for the pH, there is a discernible difference. I agree that the pH is likely not that accurate, but in relative terms, there...

    True 'Wine' (Transparent) Soap Tests

It's been a busy weekend of experimenting. I have found a way to address the fragrance so that there is one, but finding a way to maintain more of it is on-going. I have experimented with changing the pH of the bar to something less alkaline and harsh and closer to that of wine and my initial...

Making Hard Soap with Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)

Update. My family has been testing out my KOH soap bars and they have been a hit. Not too certain of the overall benefits yet or how they feel different from my regular lye soaps, but the lower pH must be something. I would like to think that the lower pH means less harsh soap, right? The bars...

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Update. I have made some significant changes to my formulation and the initial results have been better than I would have thought. Clearer soap.:) The thickness is a little more than those of post #31 (7-8mm). I have a full bar that I poured and will wait tomorrow to see if the clarity is, in...
