    Water discount

If I am reading DeeAnna's post correctly, I agree with her. I almost NEVER following the soap-calc's recommended amount of water to be used. 99% of the time, I use as much water as there is lye...that's it and it's been smooth sailing. Water is only there to dissolve the lye and create a...

    hello new soap maker here

I'm not sure how much the aluminum has contributed, but adding acidic slices of orange is my guess. The acidity and the extra water content from the orange slices will kill the batter from saponifying as needed.

    Orange (Peel) Wax

Mojack. My batter did not look like that at all. It was smooth and maroon in color. I wonder if it was a false trace now that I think of about it. I added the wax after what looked like light trace and only stirred it into the batter for a few seconds to disperse. I wonder if all the...

    Orange (Peel) Wax

Yes, same concentration as the previous soap. 5ml. It's what I typically do with my CP soap w/o problems. I think I've decided not to use it in CP as much. I love how it holds in my HP soap. I will make a non-transparent HP soap test next using the 5ml of wax.

    Orange (Peel) Wax

Oh, the CP kills the fragrance. Nowhere near as strong as HP as my transparent soap process requires. [emoji851]

    Orange (Peel) Wax

So, tried adding the same concentration of the wax in my tried and true CP soap and it was a no-go! [emoji4] I added the wax after light trace and poured. The colour was identical to the transparent soap, but soon lightened. It was also super dry and brittle. Any ideas?

    Orange (Peel) Wax

I also noticed a waxier sheen and texture to the surface of the bars.

    KOH Bar Soap

Ingrid, Take a look at this thread on hard soap with KOH: https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/making-hard-soap-with-potassium-hydroxide-koh.71629/ Good luck.

    Orange (Peel) Wax

Okay. Received a container of orange peel wax and was struck by the colour. It certainly is oily, slightly viscous, to the touch and the fragrance is a dark orange. I did taste it and it was pungent as expected. I love the fragrance. I made some of my transparent soap, melted it and added about...

    Orange (Peel) Wax

I like it. How is the fragrance from the orange peel wax?

    Orange (Peel) Wax

Hmmm. Interesting. Is the composition truly a wax (oil) or some misleading, fancified term the industry uses?

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Here is my troubled bar... I think you can see some areas of clarity, but you can also see the blotches within, cloudiness.

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Thank you! I am tried stearin acid some time ago and failed. I will admit I didn't give it a chance, but really wanted to stick with more readily available and traditional materials. I may need to revisit it. [emoji4]

Interesting. Does the colour affect your soap at all?

    Transparent Soap Adventures

I don't want to add anything artificial and from what I've read, these emulsifiers are yellow in colour, which hinders my efforts to create clear and more colorless bars. Am I wrong in either?

    Transparent Soap Adventures

I have been playing around with a coconut oil only transparent soap. I tried a couple tests sometime back and failed to get what I wanted as I was seeking more colorless soap. Coconut only transparent soap is a bit trickier and the smallest variable seems to take it towards opaqueness. I tweaked...

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Hi Anush. I use the original recipe most of the time. On the second page of the thread, I do reduce the glycerin by 25% and increase sugar solution by 25% to reduce sweating. I would try both in smaller amounts and test to see which works better for you. My 'new' recipe is under testing. I made...

    Transparent Soap Adventures

Latest transparent recipe. Completely different from what I have posted, but results are pretty decent. Here is my Orange-Citronella Menthol soap for my son. I need to redo w/o adding any essential oils to see what its true colour is. No alcohol was used as part of the solvent(s).

    Clear Castor Oil?

I have successfully made transparent soap and have a working recipe that I like. Trying for colorless and transparent. It sounds like using colourless oils, if possible, may not be the answer.
