    When things go wrong..

A few times I have poured my soap into the molds and thought it was going to be great only to be disappointed the next day because it didn't set right. Then I had to backwards troubleshoot to figure out the problem. Fragrance oils can sometimes cause soap to seize, then you try your hardest to...

How did you go about naming your business?

I was thinking up names for my fictitious soap company a few months ago, I had a list of about 15. Once I started checking them on Google, I realized how many soap makers there are out there because all of the names on my list were taken in some form or another. A lot of Etsy soapers have their...

    Soap Cutter favorites?

My hubby gave me a tank for Christmas. Now that I have used it for several months, I don't know how I soaped without it before. It is made very well. I will warn you that it took about 6 weeks to arrive during the Christmas season. I don't know what the normal wait is for one.

In honor of Liz: The Annoyance Thread

I work with students that have learning disabilities, oppositional defiance, ADHD, conduct disorders and probation officers! I don't have a lot of behavior issues in the classroom usually. They know if they hand their phones over w/o a fight they will get it back but for some of them their 1st...

In honor of Liz: The Annoyance Thread

I get so annoyed by students texting in class. I have a rule against it but the kids try to be so sly. I don't like taking them away because it is always such a struggle to get them to hand them over and it wastes my class time. Once I take a phone from a student it is my responsibility. I...

    Um, unexpected effect

It helps to wrap your soap molds in an old towel so that it gels all the way through. The towel helps to insulate. You can also put your molds in the fridge to prevent gel. There is a color difference between gelled and ungelled. I almost always gel but it is a personal preference.

How big are your CP Soaps?

I am so envious of those of you with chunky bars. Big bars of soap make me happy :-D

How big are your CP Soaps?

Mine are about the same size Mel. I really love bigger bars of soap though. I wish my molds were a little wider. My soap cutter slices 1 inch thick so I am stuck on that dimension too. My soaps weigh about 4.5 ounces after a good cure.

    People of Different Skin Needs

I am of Mexican descent and have very dy skin and hair. I tried making several batches of shampoo bars but they left my hair feeling like straw. My sister on the other hand has very oily skin and we have the same genes. I would say just have several recipes to accommodate the different skin...

LouAna Coconut Oil: No longer at Walmart?

I ran out of CO a few weeks ago and stopped by Walmart to pick some up. It was in a different package than I remembered and was 30 ounces instead of the 32 ounces the old packaging held. Also, the seal underneath the lid was different too, it was foil and hard to peel off. I liked the old...

Inspired by Melstan to try a Tiger Stripe Swirl

I was inspired by Mel's tiger stripe soap so I decided to give it a try. I usually stick to plain soaps with herbs or flowers added so this was a fun experiment. I'd like to try it again with a thinner trace, the soap started to harden towards the end. Here is my lavender & patchouli tiger...

Any advice for a new bride?

Public speaking is rough. I am a teacher and can handle talking to a room full of teenagers all day but the thought of addressing adults is terrifying.
