    What is this purple colour?

What have you tried? Purple is a hard color to achieve naturally but I think a lot of soapers have had success using Brambleberry's lab colors and oxides.

Friends\family that always give store bought soap & bodyvwash

Does anyone else run into this? I have a coworker that always gives me gifts from Bath & Body Works. I mean I appreciate the thought of the gift but I am aggravated that I always give her homemade soaps, scrubs, and lip balms and she doesn't get it. Now I need to figure out what to do with the...

What are your top 5 can't soap without 'em oils?

I think it is really funny that people look at us strangely for using lard in soap but they probably don't realize what is inside of their bar of Dove...tallow.

Essential oil blend that smells like Chai Tea?

So, I love chai tea, and I have tried several FOs but they always smell off to me or too chemically. I prefer using essential oils but I can't seem to get the chai fragrance with the spicy EOs I have been using (they smell wonderful but not really like Chai). I would really appreciate any...

What are your top 5 can't soap without 'em oils?

I think the ones I use most frequently are olive, castor, coconut, avocado and Shea. I like palm and lard but I feel like I catch guff from the vegans if I use lard and and guff from the activists for palm. I guess I need a new group of friends... I haven't eaten beef or pork since I was 13 but...

What are your top 5 can't soap without 'em oils?

I have my usuals, probably closer to 7 than 5, but what are your favorites?

Fixing the smell of essential oils

You lost me with the grams, lol. I use .3 to .5 ounces of essential oil per pound of oils. I usually anchor my EOs with some kaolin clay, it seems to help. I just used a converter to figure out grams to ounces. It seems that 425 grams is about 15 ounces and 4 grams is .14 of an ounce. You...

    A little help please

I don't have a lot of experience selling soap but I did sell produce at markets for many years. Meeple gave excellent advice. I would only add 1 thing, smile and greet every person that walks by. Back when I sold produce, I would often fill in for my coworkers when they needed a day off or got...

Pumpkin soap wedding favors, make it or buy it?

How many favors are you making? I made about 100 soap favors for my BFF in April. Just plain, round CP with lavender buds and essential oil and wrapped in a coffee filter and an Avery label. They were about 3.5 ounces each. I guesstimated the cost to be slightly over $100 for all of the...

Recipes from the WSP Learning Library

I just realized that WSP has a learning library. Has anyone tried any of them? A lot of them look great but they all seem to have a ton of ingredients. I don't mind spending money to make a good product but it seems a little expensive just to try a recipe. Has anyone had any luck with those?

Have you ever regretted soaping a fragrance?

I used a strawberry FO once for a friend. It smelled great in the bottle, just like fresh strawberries. Once I used it in CP, it kinda morphed into a fruity chemically smell.

What to do this is expensive

I think someone on here said they'd practice swirls using boxed cake mix and food coloring. They got to practice their swirls and their family got dessert.

    Theft at craft shows

I saw this article http://www.handmadeology.com/tips-for-preventing-theft-at-a-craft-show/ and it reminded me of several events from my years of selling/managing farmer's markets. I think too often vendors become comfortable at the markets they sell at and become careless. I can...

    Good books on CP

I haven't read this book but I was very excited to see that it is written by Anne-Marie. http://www.amazon.com/dp/161212089X/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Toner cartridges

It isn't all models though LSG. My HP laser printer at work won't tell me it is low on toner until the printing is compromised. If your printer is telling you to replace the toner but the print looks fine it is probably a sensor issue.

    Toner cartridges

I found a great source for toner refills. I have an old Brother 2040 laser printer. When I looked at Staples 1 toner cartridge was $65. My husband mentioned some site his friend told him about, www.meritline.com I purchased 2 cartridges and shipping for under $30. They are "generic" cartridges...

    Cruddy soap day

The soap gods were conspiring against me today: 1. Dropped/broke a glass jar full of honey and it went everywhere. 2. In the process of cleaning up the honey mess, I knocked my soaping crock pot off the counter and that broke (thankfully it was empty). 3. My 1st Lye-cano from warming the...

    Raw Tussah Silk

Sorry I am late to the post, I purchased my bag from soapmakingresource.com. 4 ounces doesn't sound like a lot but it is actually quite a bit considering how much you need for each batch. I take a pinch and spread the fibers out thin before putting into the lye water. Then I give it a few good...

    Raw Tussah Silk

I love it. The silk really adds a luxurious feel. I know it isn't cheap but a bag lasts quite a long time. I have been putting a pinch in every batch since January and have barely put a dent in the bag.

    Stinky soap?

Speaking of stinky soap, does the kelp smell ever go away? I only used a teaspoon in a 5 lb. log but it threw off off the cucumber scent I used.
