Salt Bar Recipe - pulse check

Amazing! What grain of sea salt do you use - fine, medium, coarse, etc.? Would table salt be ok? I can't get over how amazingly smooth those bars look, I wouldn't know there is any salt in there at all!

Salt Bar Recipe - pulse check

Ah. See, my extensive researching did not explain exceptions! This is super helpful. AliOop, you're like my Soaping Sensei lately - thank you for the brilliant explanation! My problem - or gift? 😆 - is that I can't seem to do anything in life half-way. So I take forever to psych myself up to do...

Salt Bar Recipe - pulse check

Hello, clever soap makers! I would really like to attempt a pink clay salt bar, inspired by this video. The author of the video seems to be very knowledgeable and experienced, and the product looks gorgeous. And fascinating, as salt bars are definitely out of the ordinary for me! I have read...

I'm new! Hopefully I'm doing this right.

Absolutely, I feel much more comfortable making a small batch than a big one. If it works out, I can always make more! I think it will be a great way to test. I am already thinking about putting together soap samplers for Christmas gifts, maybe 4-5 half-bars. I won't have enough full bars to go...

When you don't have a 1 lb soap mold..

So.. I may have a bulk EO order on its way.. 🙈 'm glad you recommended New Directions Aromatics, they are based in Toronto, Canada so they seemed the most accessible to me! Not so patiently waiting for it to arrive, but I wanted to soap again so I dug through my diffuser stash for oils I...

When you don't have a 1 lb soap mold..

But you do have a 48 oz one! :P I only have larger molds and didn't want to run out to buy a smaller 1 lb mold, so I used the miter saw to cut a piece of wood the right size, and wrapped that in parchment. Used an elastic to secure it to the wood sleeve. It worked a treat, and even the thinner...

Beginner question: mildness/ harshness of CP soap

I think this is a sign of how far down the rabbit hole I am that *everything* you said makes total sense to me lol. The chemistry behind soap making is just fascinating. I've gotten a lot of the experimentation out of my system wrt cooking and baking, so this is another great outlet!

    Uncoloured lard soap

This looks amazing, and it would be right up my MIL's alley. Do you recall what your %ages and method were, if you don't mind sharing? And cure time/ did you gel? Thank you!!

    Lard Recipe

Curious to know some of your favourite lard combinations? And what sort of properties do you find lard gives in a bar, at what percentages for it to be perceivable? I would think 50% and above? I'm fascinated by this as an ingredient, because I sure do love it in baking lol Curious to know...

Beginner question: mildness/ harshness of CP soap

Thanks so much for the feedback! The long wait is the hardest part. I've been lurking the threads and your name comes up a lot. So this is kind of a fangirl moment right here lol! I am looking forward to trying your 'no slime castile' soon! It seems beginner friendly! Question: Curious to...

Aw thanks! Yes I did see that comment somewhere, so the bars are on a layer of parchment. Also something about rotation the bars every week or so for even drying? 🤔 Here is my very first loaf, an unscented colloidal oatmeal and kaolin clay!

Beginner question: mildness/ harshness of CP soap

Hello! Beginner here! I made my very first (!) loaf of soap, on October 7th, and sliced it on October 8th (14ish hours was probably too soon, but we were heading out of town and I didn't know if it would be rock hard after that - turned out it would've been fine!). We got home today, and I...

Hello Soapers! (Soapmakers? Soapists? What is the correct term?) I'm new to soap-making, and also haven't been on a forum since the ICQ days so hopefully I'm doing this right! I love learning all manner of new hobbies, and when I recently turned over the labels from soaps made by one of my...
