Brown spots in cold process soap?

I will zap test it. Thanks for the reminder of doing that. I forgot. I also added honey and I think maybe I hand stirred in the honey so maybe it didn't evenly disburse and also I placed it on a heating pad for an hour. Not sure if this could have made a difference either.

Brown spots in cold process soap?

Hi again, So the cold process soap I made yesterday has brown spots right through the batch. I had been told to add polysorbate to my neons (which I now know was a mistake), and I did this along with added kaolin clay that I think wasn't mixed well enough, as I added it and mixed it in by...

    Soap acceleration again and again!

I may need to use more water and not do a water discount. This recipe is a friend's and she had said it would take days to unmould with so much olive oil so she does the water discount. I had never used a recipe with a water discount before. I will try hand stirring. Thanks for this suggestion!

    Soap acceleration again and again!

Hi everyone, I continue to get my soap accelerating and am trying to do a nice drop swirl or something more fancy but of course each time it thickens so fast! I stir in lye and hand stir a bit then SB for around 10 seconds. That is all. My recipe is 75% olive oil, 10% castor and 25% coconut...

    Help with accelerated trace

I'm not sure if my reply posted before. Do I not need around 50%hard oils in a recipe to help the soap to not take forever to saponify? This is helpful. Thank you!

    Help with accelerated trace

I thought each batch needs around 50% of harder oils? Is that true? I am always nervous to create a recipe with more soft oils than hard. I guess I can do a water discount if I do use more soft oils but being new to soap making I'm not sure I really know how to.

    Help with accelerated trace

Hi all, I had plans for trying a new swirl and the soap traced really fast. I'm using a new recipe with 25%palm, 28% olive, 10% shea butter, 5% cocoa butter, 7% castor oil and 25% coconut oil. My EO were orange and bergamot. I added coconut milk for half the water. I would love help figuring...

    Lotion bar too soft

I remelted it all and added some cocoa butter. It is hard now. I also think I hadn't let the beeswax truly melt to liquid. Lesson learned now so thank you!! Yes. I am using the softer coconut oil. I have so much of this as I bought this in bulk. Next time I'll order the harder one. Thank...

    Lotion bar too soft

Interesting! No I didn't weigh. I used a blog where she used cup measurements. I should know to as I of course weigh for making soap! My coconut oil is pretty soft at room temp though. Could this make a difference? Hmmm. I will for sure weigh all my ingredients and try it again. Thanks for...

    Lotion bar too soft

Thank you so much. I have never seen these percentages before. I was just using a recipe that had the measurements in cups. This is great! Oh the Shea I used is solid at room temp. So it was one third shea which was solid, one third beeswax and one third coconut oil but this wasn't hard...

    Lotion bar too soft

I made my first lotion bars using 1/3 shea, beeswax and coconut oil. They are too soft and dont stay together when I hold them. I had put them in the fridge at first. Most recipes im finding use these percentages of oil and beeswax that I used. Can someone please give me any suggestions...

    Coco butter 20%

That is helpful. Maybe I'll try that % next time. I'm off to sleep now. It isn't warm anymore but still gel so I can't cut. Will see how it is in 8 hours. I feel like it is too long to leave it for 8 hours but oh well! Thanks for the comments and help!
