Trying to achieve red in soap

Hi everyone, I have tried twice to make a Christmas soap. I purchased the really red (water soluble) from Windy point in Calgary/Canada. I think maybe this is different to the really red from Nurture soap. At first the soap colour is a beautiful Christmas red but then after a few hours it...

    Psychedelic baby!

These are beautiful - did you use the pour through method? Also do you mind me asking if this isn't a rimmed soap, how did you achieve the beautiful texture on the outside?

    African Sunset/annatto experiment

Wow! Just wow. I am from South Africa and you did the landscape and animals 100% justice. I've tried soap carving and adding in soap dough and it isn't easy at all! Getting corners sharp and unrounded was a challenge. Do you have any tips? Again - I am amazed at your works of art!

    Attempted spin swirl please help!

Hi everyone, I attempted my first spin swirl yesterday. My soap batter stayed nice and fluid and I'm wondering if maybe too fluid as my colours seem to have blended together too much. I don't have a pic yet to post as I'm at work. Does anyone have any tips to get nice bright and pretty...

    Soft soap.

On thing I want to add that has confused me so much... this recipe I posted at the top of this page is obvioulsy soft as I'm asking about it. But last week I made soap with 10%Canola, 7% castor, 51% olive, 25% coconut oil and 7% soy bean oil. % of oils was 30 %. It was 31:69...

    Soft soap.

So interesting and helpful. I keep changing my recipe to try to get it harder. Then it's too hard and traces to fast so I do a new recipe and make up one that has more soft oils. Then it's too soft. I feel like I have 20 recipes I keep trying but it's confusing. I do use a lot of colour. But...

    Soft soap.

Thanks for the reply. I meant Celsius but I will try a little cooler. I don't think it's olive oil pomace as it just says light olive oil. maybe it even is. I will try reducing the castor to 5%. And less blending for sure. I used peppermint essential oil for this batch. I'm wondering if that...

    Soft soap.

Hi all, I have a question regarding some soap I made that is still soft after a few days. The last 3 batches have been soft. I used a new slab mould this time. I haven't had this until I started using more than 30% olive oil My recipe generally lately has been (so I can have time to do...

Cold process with M and P embed question

Hi everyone, I just made cold processed soap. I soaped cool and almost at room temperature. I probably should have posted this sooner but I hope to still gel my soap so the colours will pop but am not sure if I should still gel my soap as I usually do with a melt and pour embed in it. The...

Brown spots in cold process soap?

This is helpful. I was wondering why my soap is brown even with TD. I thought the kaolin clay made it that colour but now I'm realizing it's probably the honey! I never knew I could add it this way so thank you! Such helpful iinfo. I've made 9 batches of soap but am still so new to this and...

    Soap acceleration again and again!

Oh I really thought I had replied. Thanks for wanting to help. I'm using just regular olive oil but not pomice. I appreciate the link. I'll go read up more because this part of soap making has been pretty frustrating because my recipe is high percentage of olive which I find isn't as nice and...

Brown spots in cold process soap?

Yes I will try this or add to the lye water. So far I have a hard time with the soap not tracing too fast so I don't know if I'll manage to blend it well if I add it at trace. Never thought of mixing a little water with it. Thanks.
