I made some salt bars yesterday, poured the batter into three silicone moulds, left them on the worktop and took them out of the mould this morning. I just wonder why the soaps in the flower mould are shiny whereas the others are matte... :???: Has anybody got an explanation for this?

Hi Claire, I saw a fragrance with that name in Scent Perfique. Is that where you get it from? What is the smell like and, more importantly, does it accelerate? You mention using 40% lye concentration. I have only done that once and the soap became so thick that I had problems putting it...

I use sugar at the rate of 4% of the oil weight. So, for 500g of oils, I use 20g sugar.

I see that soapmakers sometimes add tapioca starch to their soap. I know that tapioca starch is useful in creams and lotions to make them less greasy but what benefit does it bring to CP soap?

I have been using 40% Phillips' milk of magnesia liquid (traditional mint flavour) mixed with 60% babassu oil since January and it is still holding together. It has not separated and is very effective as a deodorant.
