    Attempts to mask the smell...

Just for your information, I did not need to melt the body butter to add the EO. It is quite runny as it is so I just mixed it well. So maybe after all, we are not using the same recipe!

    Attempts to mask the smell...

I, too, have made a body butter with the same ingredients as you - it must be the same recipe! And like you, I find the smell absolutely repugnant. The bacuri butter hasn't gone off - I bought it yesterday. So, I was interested to read your post. I have followed the advice of cmzaha and...

    Non-Oily Facial Moisturizer

Well, I made it again with two changes this time: The original recipe calls for 13oz. water and 1oz. ewax or cetearyl alcohol. The first time I made it, I used cetearyl alcohol. As I mentioned, it stays quite runny and when I rubbed it on my face, it produced the worst soaping effect that I...

    Non-Oily Facial Moisturizer

I probably have. I have since then found a blog stating that the recipe asks for too much water. I'll do it again with less water. Thanks.

    Non-Oily Facial Moisturizer

I just made some and when at room temperature it remains very liquid. Is this how yours looks?

    Emulsifiers

Thank you DeeAnna for your answer. As usual, you are a mine of information!

    Emulsifiers

So BTMS seems to be the one to go for! Although I hate the soaping effect and I found that Simulgreen prevents this. I really wanted to know whether some emulsifiers are more suited to dry or oily skin.

    Emulsifiers

When formulating a face/body cream/lotion, I know that the choice of oils will make it more or less suited to certain types of skin (dry, oily, combination). Does the same apply to emulsifiers? For example, is ewax NF better for dry or oily skin? I have ewax NF, BTMS, BTMS-50, Simulgreen...

    Un-Talcum Powder

    Thanks for that.

    Un-Talcum Powder

Teresa, at the beginning of this post you mention making a "talc free powder". Just out of interest, is baby talcum powder bad? Or, if not bad, what is wrong with it?

    de-funk de pits

I have no idea what it is doing but it works!

    de-funk de pits

I, too, use it still and am happy with it. I made another one though, after seeing a recipe on a French website the other day. Here is the recipe: 50% coconut oil (I used babassu oil for the reasons mentioned above) 10% carnauba wax 3% cetearyl alcohol 6% olivem 1000 Melt all these in a...

    Copper carbonate

You are a real mine of information! Thank you.

    Copper carbonate

Thank you all for your input. I will definitely not use it for soap but I like the idea of "a teensy tiny bit in planter or vase collecting saucers keeps at bay mosquito larvaes during the summer!". I always get badly bitten by mosquitoes or other insects (my husband never gets a single bite...

    Copper carbonate

I have listened to all your advice and it is now in the bin. That will teach me to try and experiment! Luckily, it was not expensive. I will stick to micas in the future. Thank you all for your time.

    Copper carbonate

Thank you all for this. I guess that I will not use it then. I have plenty of micas and will stick to them.

    Copper carbonate

I have a question for the chemists among you: is it safe to use copper carbonate to colour soap? The powder is a beautiful pale green/turquoise colour and I have read that, in an alkaline environment, it turns turquoise. Obviously, I would only use a very small amount but I worry about its...

    Magnesium carbonate

I have found on a French website a lady who makes her own deodorant with magnesium carbonate. There was a long thread on the Forum about using magnesium hydroxide for its deodorising virtues. For the chemists among you, is there a difference between magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide...
